Location/Division

In the Semiconductor business unit within the Materials and Structural Analysis Division (MSD) we enable customers to find meaningful answers to questions that accelerate breakthrough discoveries and ultimately change the world. The Semiconductor business unit designs, manufactures, and supports a broad range of high-performance microscopy workflows on wafers and single chips that provide images and answers in the micro-, nano-, and picometer scales. We combine hardware and software expertise in electron and ion microscopy with deep application knowledge in electronics markets and our worldwide Electron Microscopy employees are dedicated to our customers' pursuit of discovery and resolution to global challenges.

This position will sit at our Hillsboro, OR site. Relocation is provided.

How will you make an impact?

As a Senior Applications Development Engineer, you will develop efficient solutions for customers to make mission critical process decisions with the use of expertly crafted workflows and automation on Thermo Fisher Scientific’s dual beam systems.

What will you do?

  • Develop, characterize, and document advanced applications to expand or automate small and wafer dual beam microscope functionality for semiconductor customers.
  • Automate applications using tools such as Thermo Fisher Automation Solutions/Python/Machine Learning.
  • Conduct customer training and translate customer needs into useful solutions.
  • Provide technical product expertise to assist with all phases of the sales cycle.
  • Champion positive customer relationships and act as a high-level customer interface for specific instrument/applications issues, explaining technology details, giving in depth technical presentations, and assisting them in applications development.
  • Provide customer support and applications training after instrument installation.
  • Provide continuous feedback to the product groups on system performance, features, and potential problems while collaborating with marketing/development groups on future product developments.

How will you get here?

Education

  • Minimum education is a bachelor’s degree (technical engineering, engineering, sciences, or related field).

Experience

  • Six or more years of experience in a semiconductor equipment environment
  • Hands-on experience with DualBeam, FIB, SEM, or similar semiconductor manufacturing equipment
  • Experience using Machine Learning to create predictive models of features within a set of images is desirable

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Knowledge of technology diagnostics as well as troubleshooting techniques, operational optimization, and experience of analytical equipment; specifically, electron/ion microscopes.
  • Proven ability in a research environment with recent experience utilizing small and/or wafer DualBeam technology.
  • Clear communication skills, both written and verbal for a diverse audience is crucial to success in this role.
  • Excellent customer interfacing skills.
  • Proven ability to work well with multi-functional and cross-cultural teams.
  • Ability to travel both domestically internationally up to 25%; possession of a valid passport.
