What you will do:

This opening is for a highly experienced and self-motivated individual to support latest generation LC-MS instrumentation as a Sr. Lab Application Scientist – Proteomics in our Somerset, NJ product demonstration laboratory. Primary responsibilities will be to support the commercial field sales team by conducting LC-MS product demonstrations related to (but not limited to) qualitative and quantitative proteomics applications, and serving as a point of contact for the local product demonstration laboratory. Additional responsibilities include providing pre-sales support to our LSMS sales team at customer sites to position them for successful wins, and enabling the success of our customers through post-sales training and application support.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct and participate actively in LCMS product demonstrations showcasing Thermo Scientific’s state of the art mass spectrometry products (Ion Trap, QQQ, and Orbitrap based products).
  • Provide pre- and post-sales technical support as well as applications assistance in response to customer inquiries (both internal and external), including education, training and on-site visits.
  • Develop new applications applying Thermo Scientific LCMS offerings, including writing application notes, peer reviewed publications, and presenting at the appropriate scientific conferences.
  • Excel at communicating with customers as a technical expert
  • Create and deliver information-rich tools to support customers and the commercial organization
  • Apply knowledge to develop innovative solutions to resolve complex problems and facilitate communication within the team and across the CoE when required
  • Capture new knowledge within the field of expertise and develop content to educate the team and customers
  • Independently prioritize projects and manage behavior to most effectively accomplish core job functions.
  • Establish a network with tangential business units to ensure the team recognizes the business concerns and perspectives of others.
  • Lead team projects and mentor junior colleagues
  • Work with management team to help the broader team successfully navigate change
  • Ensure that all activities are carried out in accordance with Thermo Fisher Scientific policies and applicable laws
  • Represent Thermo Fisher Scientific by clearly and consistently demonstrating Thermo Fisher Scientific’s mission, vision, values and objectives to both our employees and end-user customers

How you will get here:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in technical discipline required, plus 8+ years of relevant experience, or
  • MS degree with 5+ years of relevant experience, or
  • PhD with 2+ years of relevant experience.

Experience:

  • 3+ years of hands-on LCMS experience.
  • Expert competency in qualitative and quantitative proteomics LCMS workflows (e.g. TMT workflows, label-free protein quantitation, PTM analysis, discovery proteomics, etc.) and associated sample preparation techniques is required.
  • Expert competency in a broad range of LCMS instrumentation both qualitative and quantitative.

  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills (English)
