LOCATION/DIVISION SPECIFIC INFORMATION The Data Science and Machine Learning Internship position provides an opportunity for students who are currently pursuing a computer science, bioinformatics, computational biology, or similar degree to get hands on experience working with scientists and software engineers in a fast-paced research and development environment. The intern will participate in the development and testing of machine learning models including large language models to improve the performance of our algorithms to support genetic science research and development. The position starts in May or June, paid working 40 hours per week through summer. A DAY IN THE LIFE: - Training and testing on different machine learning models - Brainstorming new improvements to streamline current techniques - Understanding our group's standard practices to support genetic science research and development KEYS TO SUCCESS: EDUCATION - Currently enrolled in a master's program or a Ph.D. program EXPERIENCE - Knowledge about data science and machine learning - Large scale data science programming project - Deploy and evaluate machine learning models KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES - Proficient in Python, Java or related and willing to learn - Modern Data Science and Machine Learning - Knowledge of cloud computing with AWS PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS / WORK ENVIRONMENT Work environment is an in-office stable 9 to 5 with some flexibility. The work itself is supported by a team effort in which we encourage engagement from a pool of different contributors in order to develop useful tools that will further progress our common goal of supporting genetic science research and development.

Compensation and Benefits

The hourly pay range estimated for this position based in California is $14.75–$45.75.
