Location/Division: Carlsbad, CA Genetic Sciences Division

How will you make an impact?

  • You will lead development of algorithms for molecular diagnostics based on capillary electrophoresis, real-time PCR and other technologies and be a part of the fast-growing field of personalized medicine
  • You will interact with and learn from a talented team of software and hardware designers revolutionizing healthcare through low-cost and high throughput diagnostic systems

What will you do?

  • Lead development of signal processing, image analysis, optimization, and machine learning algorithms
  • Establish best practices and operation processes
  • Define algorithm development goals and success metrics
  • Collaborate with Systems and Software Engineers on new technology and instrument development
  • Drive product development from feasibility work to commercialization and regulatory approvals
  • Present difficult concepts in a clear way to both technical and non-technical audiences

How will you get here?

Education

Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics, Physics, Electrical Engineering, Statistics, Computer science, Bioinformatics, or a related field. A Master’s degree and 5+ years of direct experience in areas below will get full consideration.

Experience

  • 2+ years of experience leading algorithm development for scientific applications is required
  • 5+ years of experience in commercial instrument software and product development
  • A track record of delivering solutions with significant business impact
  • Strong technical and people leadership personality is necessary
  • Direct experience with signal processing and image analysis for real time PCR, capillary electrophoresis, microarray, NGS, or similar instrumentation is desired
  • Proficiency in C++ or Java development and confident prototyping in Python or MATLAB is required

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Knowledge in statistics, numerical methods and optimization, machine learning and deep learning
  • Effective communication skills, especially for presenting scientific results, keeping records, and working collaboratively in a team of scientists are necessary
