Job Description

Take your next career step at ABB with a global team that is energizing the transformation of society and industry to achieve a more productive, sustainable future.

At ABB, we have the clear goal of driving diversity and inclusion across all dimensions: gender, LGBTQ+, abilities, ethnicity and generations. Together, we are embarking on a journey where each and every one of us, individually and collectively, welcomes and celebrates individual differences.

In industrial settings, AI holds the potential for significant improvements such as energy-efficient operations, increasing throughput, and enabling more sustainable operations. According to a Gartner research study, only 15% of AI solutions deployed by 2022 will be successful. Despite a model’s statistical performance, process experts often don’t trust a ML model whose inner reasoning is not clear to them. If deployed, the end-users further struggle to comprehend the outputs and actions of the ML models.

To realize the possible benefits of AI in industrial applications, domain experts and end-users need to be given insights of the internal reasoning of ML (Machine Learning)-models. To close the loop, end-users also need an ability to provide their own input into the model, to trigger re-training so that the model can be continuously improved with the help of end users. This is crucial to assure that the model output continues to improve in a direction that is useful for operators in their daily work of handling the process. The question becomes, how do we involve the end user more in improving the systems that they work with? How do we assure them that their experience and thus their input is valuable?
