Your role:

The world of pharmaceutical manufacturing is full of data challenges and opportunities. We’re building up a data science team which will be set out to tackle these. Your role is to build up a data science profile within our BTS (Business Technology Solution) department.

You will be part of a rapidly growing, innovative and highly agile team of automation and track & trace engineers, MES, OSI PI and IT experts with opportunities to bring in new ideas with self-responsibility to have a real impact on our strategic development.

You identify and recommend business process efficiencies and improvements by formulating and solving analytics challenges that offers the greatest business opportunity and drives data-driven decision making. You are responsible to determine appropriate datasets and algorithms, to uncover patterns, and to formulate business solutions. In our team you will be closely working with our business stakeholders to further automate business processes utilizing data science and machine learning., while aligning to global standards and best practices.

You collaborate with business and BTS stakeholders to track and map value driven by the project to demonstrate savings and return on the investment (ROI) for process improvements derived from data analytics insights (such as product yield improvements, reduction of cycle time, and elimination of waste).

You act as a technical liaison between BTS, vendors, and various business/client areas, using appropriate tools to collect, correlate, and analyze data for use, and implement solutions that drive business goals.

Look forward to the following responsibilities:

  • Stand up data science capabilities for our BTS department of Ludwigshafen Operations
  • Design and implement data science and AI solutions, e.g. in the area of predictive scheduling, preventive maintenance, real-time tracking
  • Investigate corporate data requirements and apply data analysis, design, modelling, and quality assurance techniques, to establish, modify or maintain data structures and their associated components (entity descriptions, relationship descriptions, attribute definitions).
  • Identify and refine potential data science use cases together with our business stakeholders.
  • Design, implement and shape our predictive applications through their entire lifecycle – from ideation and specification, architectural design, prototyping and integration into productive systems.
  • Be part of designing and setting up a modern analytics and data architecture which fits the needs of a data-driven pharmaceutical company.
  • Continuously refine our analytics landscape by evaluating new tools and analytical approaches.
  • Lead the laboratory and IT compliance team of Ludwigshafen Operations BTS
  • Ensure compliance of system lifecycle and operations with applicable guidelines (e.g. CFR 21 Part 11, Data Integrity)
  • Drive assessment and improvement initiatives on Data Integrity for lab systems

Qualifications

Your AbbVie Talent:

  • Master’s degree in data science, computer science, statistics, economics, mathematics, related field, or equivalent work experience is required
  • Multiple years of working experience in a similar role.
  • Advanced practical experience with supervised and unsupervised machine learning techniques in

    enterprise settings. Proficiency in machine learning frameworks and data analytics tools.

  • Experience with big data applications (e.g. Spark), cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift) is a plus.
  • Experience with implementing machine intelligence algorithms and model implementation using agile practices preferred. 
  • Experience in the systems development, implementation, and operations of a large-scale, enterprise systems. Excellent interpersonal skills and well-developed verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to effectively lead and facilitate meetings with customers and technical team members. Must be deliverables focused and detail oriented. Must exhibit exceptional teamwork skills. Must have a strong customer focus.
  • Experience in Manufacturing preferred
  • Capability to envision end-to-end data solutions and setting the right priorities.
  • Openness to share your knowledge with colleagues and to learn from others.
  • Fluent in spoken and written German and English.
  • Experience with statistical packages / languages such as R, SPSS, SAS, MatLab, or MiniTab
  • Experience and strength with at least one programming language such asC++, C#, or Python, or Java.
  •  Experience in Lean Six Sigma or Operational Excellence methodologies also an advantage
