Job Description

Purpose: As a part of AbbVie’s Digital Health Function in the Data Sciences & Statistics group, you will have the opportunity to shape the future of clinical research. The Digital Health team is responsible for setting the strategic vision for Digital Health across the organization and working across all Therapeutic Areas to bring those strategies to life in meaningful ways for AbbVie and for patients. The Senior Scientist/PrincipalSignal Processing Scientist will provide subject manner expertise (SME) as we advance the research and development of digital endpoints and manage all the signal processing efforts for analytical and clinical digital health device validations in collaboration with internal as well as external partners.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform signal processing and algorithm development support across all therapeutic areas. This will include efforts to define data structures, feature extractions, and/or managing external partners so the proper methodologies and scientific rigor are applied to ensure highly accurate and reliable results.
  • Provide support for the Digital Strategy Team, making sure that the digital health tools being implemented in clinical trials not only meet the technical requirements but also align with the clinical evidence and overall strategy.
  • Partner with the Digital Health Platform and Capabilities team on technical assessments of new and novel technologies. This will include serving as a technical expert on device and sensors evaluations, producing technical documents, and publishing a digital health tools catalogue for internal use.
  • Guide study teams and data scientists on the analysis of digital devices, sensor, IoT, and wearables data across all stages of drug development.
  • Collaborate with Data Science and Statistics to define data collection methods and requirements such that the downstream signal processing and data analysis can be fully enabled and streamlined to produce desired results.
  • Create training, workshops, and educational webinars to help establish a knowledge base of signal processing and algorithm development within AbbVie.
  • Provide SME input on the sections of documentation for regulatory agency meetings and participate in said meetings to address technical questions raised by regulatory agencies.
  • Author sections of CSR, technical reports, and support publications and presentations.

Qualifications

Level will be based on education and years of experience.

  • Graduated training required. Preferred: PhD in Physics, Mathematics, Engineering or advanced analytics with at least 5+ years of industry experience in tech, life science, healthcare or pharmaceutical.
  • Firm understanding of various sensors used in the medical and consumer devices, i.e accelerometer, gyroscope, temperature, pressure touch, proximity, microphone, light, GPS, radiofrequency, etc.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple projects, as well as collaborate and influence cross-functionally in a highly matrixed environment
  • Comfort working in a fast paced, agile environment
  • Strong communication skills and ability to influence and navigate a highly matrixed organization
  • Proficient in programming, signal processing and data analysis using Python, MatLab, C++, JAVA, R, SQL, data structure and algorithm development
