Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maximize value generated from LIS services by assessing business requests vs. potential impact to expand support for critical areas
  • Know and manage the relationship with the business & its stakeholders
  • Segment AbbVie’s customer groups by high level knowledge needs and key stakeholders, map this to existing resources, content, and services, proactively identify gaps and trends
  • Develop strong relationships with customer leaders as well as matrix partners across BTS/IR especially with the Data Science group, be a trusted partner to AbbVie’s scientific communities
  • Proactively seeks out strategic business opportunities with high-level business unit executives from one or more business areas across IR and the customer organization
  • Ensure that important customer contacts are cultivated and maintained, and that the appropriate LIS colleagues are involved in projects at an early stage.
  • Be well connected across the various business areas, alert the LIS team on key changes
  • Support the LSD team with identifying strategic business partners and impactful business opportunities

Optimize how we work:

  • Build up a central resource, capturing knowledge needs and gaps across the business landscape, integrating existing tacit knowledge within the LIS team
  • Based on a deep understanding of the business strategy, ensure that projects, services, and communications are aligned and accordingly prioritized within our portfolio.
  • Collaborate with LSD leads to create project plans, targets for milestones, deliverables, and tasks assignments
  • Support the LSD leads with prioritizing business requests
  • Schedule and organize project intake and client meetings and write meeting minutes
  • Keep track of ongoing projects and timelines
  • Facilitate and advocate for improvements to our user experience (tools, services), how our customers access the knowledge we provide and how this knowledge can relate to other tools and services.
  • Facilitate the evaluation of new tools and knowledge resources and support decision making process with knowledge on business needs and gaps
  • Be accountable for financial and resource planning for LSD services and ensuring proper coordination between the involved teams.

Communicate our value:

  • Keeping track of success stories achieved by the team and then marketing them internally and externally together with the Communication Team of LIS.
  • Systematically analyze metrics, communicate trends and insights from the data, and identify opportunities for maximizing ROI for resources

  • Prepare & present coherent and impactful stories to senior management and business stakeholders collaboratively with LIS team members

Know the knowledge science:

  • Monitor new technology trends related to knowledge modeling, knowledge discovery, and digitalization.
  • Establish an external presence in precompetitive consortia (e.g., Pistoia Alliance) as well as through conferences and publications.

Manage the local Team:

  • Administrative supervisor for the local (US) LIS team (10+)
  • Achieve great results while overwhelmingly demonstrating key AbbVie values and behaviors.

Qualifications:

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree with 8 years experience; Master's Degree with 7 years experience; PhD with 3 years experience. Background in life sciences or work experience in the pharmaceutical industry preferred.
  • Scientific domain knowledge and familiarity with pharmaceutical R&D, drug discovery, computational biology, informatics
  • Ability to understand, efficiently capture and connect organizational structures and knowledge needs of scientists across the Pharma value chain to LIS resources, services and other knowledge sources
  • Ability and experience to manage local and global teams
  • High organizational skills and result orientation
  • Good understanding of project management and resource planning
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and skilled at moving stakeholders towards clarity of requirements
  • Strong customer focus, orientation, and presence
  • Comfortable working with staff at all levels of the organization
  • Excited about working in a global team with a very diverse customer base
  • Comfortable working with and leading teams and projects in matrix organizations.
  • Experience with biomedical information resources (e.g., PubMed), literature and/or patent research, information analysis and data normalization would be an additional asset. Experience in text mining, natural language processing, semantic enrichment, data mining or machine learning/AI is a plus.
  • Demonstrates an interest in working collaboratively, cross-functionally, and in inter-disciplinary teams with an ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing to scientists and non-scientists.
  • Well-organized and balances taking direction from others (sponsors, partners, clients) with taking initiative to manage multiple projects and learning responsibilities.
  • Innate scientific curiosity, technical creativity, and innovative thinking, motivated to break new ground in the field of discovery and management.
  • Fluency in English.
