Job Description

Job Responsibilities:

  • Define and evolve the technical vision and strategy for the AIA IC and ensure its alignment with FFRDC strategies.
  • Develop new, impactful work opportunities for staff in collaboration with MITRE's business units.
  • Ensure the technical relevance, quality, and integrity of our AI work program.
  • Shape and drive cutting-edge, sponsor-relevant AI research in MITRE’s Internal Research and Development Program.
  • Ensure national impact of AI projects in partnership with project leaders, from inception and onset.
  • Oversee AI initiatives to assess and continually improve quality and help staff achieve technical excellence.
  • Lead MITRE’s AI Assurance and Discovery Laboratory that is currently under development and ensure the impactful execution of sponsor projects through its capabilities.
  • Partner with MITRE’s leadership to operationalize MITRE’s good growth strategy and help grow our team in meaningful ways.
  • Collaborate with AIA IC leadership to deliberately grow the organization’s core competencies and to support early career workforce development.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key technical leaders across MITRE program divisions, MITRE Labs, and externally to grow new collaboration opportunities.
  • Coordinate technical outreach to industry, academia, and other stakeholders, ensuring that best practices and technologies are brought to bear on technical products.

Required Qualifications:

  • World-class technical expertise and recognition in a branch of artificial intelligence.
  • Bachelor’s degree and 15 years of relevant work experience or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to articulate challenging technical concepts to both untrained and expert audiences.
  • Can-do attitude and history of entrepreneurial success.
  • Ability to exert meaningful influence over strategic decisions in complex, multi-stakeholder, and collaborative environments.
  • Demonstrated track record in learning about and rapidly responding to new problems across a variety of domains.
  • Experience with planning, executing, and presenting complex trade studies while balancing cost and schedule constraints.
  • Comprehensive understanding of state of the art and best practices in AI technologies and key technical communities outside of MITRE.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in both virtual and live presentation of complex technical issues.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD TS/SCI clearance within one year of employment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in computer science, artificial intelligence related technical field or equivalent practical experience.
  • 20+ years of relevant work experience, including full time industry experience or as a researcher.
  • Ability to create, articulate, and motivate transformative concepts and outcomes and achieve practical outcomes in complex operational environments.
  • Demonstrated expertise in broad areas of artificial intelligence spanning across civil sectors and national security missions.
  • Deep understanding of the civil sector and the national security mission spaces, major sponsors and programs, and external research landscapes.
  • Demonstrated track record in building strong internal and external partnerships.
  • Experience with leveraging solutions from leading academic and commercial research groups.
