MITRE’s Center for Government Effectiveness and Modernization, Veterans Affairs Health Innovation and Central Office Division is seeking a motivated and creative data analytics/modelling and simulation expert with experience applying their skills within healthcare environments. As a member of the CGEM VA Health Team, you will lead communities to discover new possibilities and create opportunities to optimize healthcare within the Veterans Health Administration (VHA). MITRE’s VA Health, Innovation and Central Office division supports VHA by enabling the implementation of the Maintaining Systems and Strengthening Integrated Outside Networks (MISSION) Act. MITRE is looking for a thought leader with experience shaping EHR, Supply Chain and Financial Management IT Systems and initiatives (e.g., VISTA, CERNER, FMBT, DMLSS), with experience in Interface analysis, data analytics; regulation and policy, physician workflow, analysis of healthcare integration delivery models.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Leverage understanding of VA domains (clinical processes, health systems, and healthcare policies) to appropriately advise executive-level sponsors, MITRE SMEs, and MITRE leadership
  • Demonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving skills to deliver data-driven technical products and high-quality recommendations to VA, to include timely and complex clinical processes optimization, performance metrics, predictive analytics, performance dashboards, and other solutions to maximize operational effectiveness and efficiency for VA
  • Be passionate about applying operations research, statistics, and data analytics to real world problems.
  • Support the development and application of a variety of analytical models to sponsor challenges, with a willingness to adapt and learn.
  • Present results in an intuitive, actionable manner that can be understood by all sponsor audiences, regardless of technical expertise.
  • Possess strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills to present delivery excellence in technical results in an intuitive, understandable, and actionable manner to sponsors, with the ability to adapt and evolve approaches within a rapidly changing environment
  • Participate in a shared leadership model with the CGEM VA Health Innovation and Central Office team and Department Manager; lead and collaborate with a high-performing team
  • Create scalable and sustainable solutions through opportunities that integrate common knowledge, experience, and expertise across federal agencies
  • Proactively identify opportunities where the FFRDC can increase its value to the VA

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Typically requires a minimum of 8 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 6 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 3 years’ experience; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.
  • Applicants selected for this position will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or applicants who are eligible for security clearances.

Required Qualifications:

Healthcare experience in several of the following areas:

  • Experience working in healthcare or with Veteran Affairs
  • Evidence of knowledge of principles, concepts, methods and tools for conducting operations research, statistical analysis, or data analytic studies
  • Experience in using tools and technique to do mathematical modeling, optimization, statistics, probability modeling, and simulation
  • Demonstrated ability to use at least one modern programming language, simulation, optimization, or business intelligence platform (e.g., RStudio, MATLAB, Python, Java, Gurobi, CPLEX, Stella) Healthcare systems and operations
  • Telehealth IT Systems
  • Business Process Modelling and Optimization
  • Strong track record of leaning-in, being agile and adaptable, and willing to learn in complex environments

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Mastery of, and experience with, methodologies including large scale health system implementation (IOC prep, IOC and FOC)
  • Application of IT (application, network, infrastructure) to health care delivery
  • Understanding of the change management aspects of a CERNER/EHR, FMBT, and Supply Chain Systems implementation as well as the technical aspects of implementing such a large-scale transformation in commercial health systems.
  • Detailed knowledge of CERNER is a plus, in particular hands on CERNER EHR experience
  • Significant expertise (5-10 years +) of EHR systems implementations to include leadership or management experience, understanding the healthcare industry, delivery models, payment models, clinical quality measures or clinical decision support, and health systems. 
  • Masters, PhD in Operational Research, Health Informatics, Health IT, Health Data Analytics or related field
  • Eight or more years of experience working with VA, or other relevant agencies and/or departments of the US Government
  • Experience in a consulting environment
