MITRE’s Clinical Insights Innovation Cell needs an experienced genomic data scientist to join our team for a full-time position. This position will require a background in the healthcare domain and specific experience in working with genomic datasets. Ideal candidates will be able to apply their expertise to health system problems facing our nation and will have focused experience in analyzing and characterizing viral genomic data. You will be responsible for supporting efforts that deliver high impact and innovative approaches to designing research protocols and studies to deliver rapid insight from clinical and genomic data to accelerate R&D efforts in urgently needed diagnostic, therapeutic and prophylactic capabilities in both private and public sectors.

This Clinical Insights Innovation Cell brings together our shared expertise in clinical and genomic data science, clinical workflows, machine learning, statistics, and informatics to drive towards improved clinical outcomes, more efficient and optimal clinical research trials. MITRE’s Clinical Insights Research Unit Group strives to provide solutions to the deeply troubling performance issues in our existing healthcare system. In addition, the ideal candidate will have demonstrated the ability to successfully work in teams that include a blend of expertise – including software engineers, data science, digital health experts, AI experts, statisticians, and clinicians. Job Responsibilities:

  • Lead a multi-disciplinary team while growing expert Genomic Data Science talent, facilitating high impact contributions to private and public sector projects,
  • Communication and coordination with MITRE subject matter experts as well as external partners for the aggregation of ideas and materials
  • Leading engagement and organizing meetings with health systems, pharmaceutical manufacturers, and other healthcare stakeholders
  • Provide thought leadership in identifying and addressing emerging Genomic Data Science needs
  • Interface with senior leaders of health systems, clinical research organizations and academic institutions to guide approaches to solutions based on understanding of the issue
  • Mentor and coach group staff to improve their performance
  • Recruit and hire new technical, clinical, and leadership staff and help staff them on suitable projects
  • Lead Interviews, Reviews, and Performance Improvement Discussions at mid-year, end of year, and as circumstances require
  • Leverage your internal social network and corporate knowledge to provide appropriate tasking and opportunities to group staff

Required Qualifications:

  • Requires a minimum of 5+ years of related experience in leading teams with expertise in Clinical and Genomic Data Science
  • Have a current advanced (MD and/or PhD) degree with real-world clinical experience
  • Understanding of the healthcare industry, clinical roles, and government and private healthcare organizations
  • Minimum of 5 years working with Pharmaceutical Industry
  • A track record of successfully delivering on deadlines
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Deliverables oriented, starting with the end in mind
  • Professional demeanor and ability to create professional level deliverables

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience working as, or directly with a PI (or site PI) of a clinical research trial
  • Understanding of health IT standards, challenges in data interoperability
  • Familiarity with FHIR
  • Familiarity with the HL7 process for standards
  • Clinical standards/code systems
  • Technical expertise in querying languages/research tools such as:
  • SAS or STATA
  • SQL
  • Data visualization skills
  • Tableau, Power Bi, or others
  • Lean Six Sigma training or exposure
  • Clinical or academic research expertise (may be from direct treatment of patients, administration, working in a lab or on various research initiatives for publication)
  • Previous experience working with government agencies
