Job Description

The Performance and Solutions Engineering Department, within the MITRE Center for Securing the Homeland (CSH), applies broad Homeland Security, Intelligence, and Federal Law Enforcement expertise, a deep understanding of operational tradecraft, and a deep understanding of our sponsor’s challenges to develop and advance innovative sociotechnical solutions which enable current and future homeland security operations from the tactical to enterprise levels. The CSH provides systems engineering and integration support to planning, programming, acquisition (including concept exploration and early prototyping), and evaluation capabilities for Homeland Security. 

Roles and Responsibilities:

Working with experienced teams in work efforts that may include:

• Leading projects through the project, system, or acquisition life cycle, including conceptualization, requirements definition, development, integration, and deployment and operations and sustainment
• Leading teams or providing technical leadership for work products or outcomes
• Demonstrating, leveraging, and building expertise in a domain of operations or class of systems, e.g., IT/cyber, biotechnical, sensors, C4I
• Supporting requirements management and analysis, interface management, architecture development and test and evaluation processes
• Conducting qualitative and quantitative systems engineering analyses that can be translated into actionable recommendations for Homeland Security missions and organizations
• Advising government leaders in defining the context, problem space and vision to determine capabilities, priorities, road maps, and technology needs using modern system engineering approaches
• Applying cutting edge methods and tools (such as Model-Based Systems Engineering, Digital Engineering, Machine Learning, Data Analytics, Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) or DevSecOps) to assess designs, identify, and mitigate performance constraints and gaps, evaluate proposed changes, and support verification and test, to solve Homeland Security problems

Minimum Qualifications:

• Typically requires a minimum of 5 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 3 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with relevant experience who can immediately contribute at this job step; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a US government clearance.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong project management skills and the ability to manage multiple concurrent processes across organizational lines.
• Ability to effectively communicate technical requirements to a non-technical audience
• Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams)

Preferred Qualifications:

• Advanced degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Information Systems, Information Technology, Software Engineering, Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related Information Technology or Engineering field
• Experience leading high performing engineering teams
• Experience working engineering of systems in a federal environment
• Experience working in/architecting cloud-based environments such as Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud, or Microsoft Azure
