The INDOPACOM Regional Operations Department (N254) in the MITRE Joint and Services Center is seeking to fill a Data Scientist position based at the U.S. Army Pacific (USARPAC) at Fort Shafter and Pacific Air Forces (PACAF) at Joint Base Pearl Harbor Hickam in Hawaii. Qualified candidates will have a strong data analytics and computer programming background with demonstrated technical experience in implementing the data analytics lifecycle for advanced warfighting and/or complex business problems. Candidate must be able to work collaboratively with an integrated, federated MITRE team demonstrating strong teamwork and cooperation.

The selected individual will be expected to work closely with military and civilian government experts from across USARPAC, PACAF, and the Indo Pacific community to address their critical mission needs and assisting the MITRE Project Leader in implementing data analytic capabilities to increase USARPAC’s, PACAF’s and INDOPACOM’s posture and competitiveness in support of INDOPACOM’s Theater Campaign Plan and Operational Plans. This position requires onsite support to the sponsor in Hawaii and includes working in conjunction with a multi-disciplinary MITRE team across the INDOPACOM and Component Enterprise.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Execute data analytics and machine learning projects as an implementer or advisor to USARPAC, working with the full data analytics lifecycle.
  • Apply scientific methods, processes, algorithms, and techniques to extract knowledge and insights from structured and unstructured data, leveraging expertise in computer science, mathematics, and related fields.
  • Use domain knowledge and research methodologies to frame focused, actionable questions and hypotheses about sponsor and business priorities.
  • Advise on AI and machine learning projects, providing guidance on the selection and application of appropriate analytic methods and techniques.
  • Apply tools and write programs to structure data sources and process big data.
  • Employ descriptive and inferential statistics to demonstrate patterns in data.
  • Utilize unsupervised and supervised machine learning to help understand problems and to provide guidance for future action.
  • Visualize, report, and communicate results.
  • Communicate concepts and technical capabilities to senior leadership.
  • Lead development of new partnerships with solution providers.
  • Coordinate across government stakeholders, MITRE project, MITRE department and other MITRE engineering staff.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 2 years of related experience; or an advanced degree with relevant experience who can immediately contribute at this job step; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.
  • Applicants selected for this position will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or applicants who are eligible for security clearances.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in technical field (e.g., Data Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Systems Engineering, Physics)
  • Candidate must possess an active DoD Secret clearance with the ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI Clearance for access to classified information and spaces.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Possess an active TS/SCI level security clearance
  • Possess an in-depth understanding and a demonstrated ability to advance AI/ML systems planning and analysis
  • Previous experience supporting a large, dynamic, fast-paced team
  • 2-years’ experience applying data science excellence in DoD or Intelligence Community environments
  • Demonstrated technical skills as applied to AI/ML systems requirements
  • Knowledge of Combatant Command and joint operations and organizations
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both oral and written, and effective at diplomatically interacting with technical staff, analysts, and operators ranging from action officers to senior leaders.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver technical reports and briefings for operational sponsors.
