Within MITRE's Data and Human Centered Solutions Technical Center, the successful candidate will serve as an analyst applying and/or developing analytic tools and techniques to support MITRE and its customers' mission requirements. While the position will reside in the Geospatial and Analytic Technologies Department, the scope of outreach and impact will extend across the Corporation and all its customers. This position requires a strong analyst with independent, collaborative, and entrepreneurial skills. The successful candidate will focus on applying analytic capabilities and developing integrated analytic solutions to maximize MITRE’s support across its customers.

Successful candidates will:

  • Work on multi-disciplinary teams to provide geospatial expertise, whether that be as the only geospatial subject matter expert (SME) or on a geospatial task team.
  • Mentor junior staff both on his/her projects and within the department.
  • Discover and leverage existing and previous MITRE work to benefit sponsors, while building government and MITRE partnerships.
  • Support the development and application of geospatial modeling and analytics to sponsor challenges, with a willingness to adapt and learn.
  • Work with a spectrum of government sponsors to gain understanding of their challenges, evaluate possible solutions, and conduct insightful, actionable analyses.
  • Have an innate curiosity and interest in developing research questions and testing hypotheses with open ended tasking.
  • Identify and grow opportunities across MITRE that would benefit from the department staff’s expertise.
  • Demonstrate the science behind the geospatial industry, where everyday technologies have made geospatial seem like typical plug-and-play.
  • Stay abreast of the changing landscape, new technologies, and current trends in the geospatial industry.
  • Be passionate about applying geospatial analytics to real world problems.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field with 7+ years of experience
  • Applicants selected for this position will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information

Required Qualifications

  • Applied experience with common GIS tools, e.g., Esri, QGIS, Hexagon Geospatial
  • Applied experience developing geospatial workflows and tools using Python
  • Applied experience in data analytics using R, SQL, or other analytical packages
  • Applied experience employing software development best practices
  • Applied experience with spatial database design and management
  • Applied experience in ETL of spatiotemporal datasets
  • Ability to construct spatial data models from implicit and explicit data to match analytical needs
  • Ability to identify and conflate disparate datasets for enriched analysis
  • Ability to identify the appropriate insertion of geospatial analytics into data-driven decisions and products
  • Ability to explain technical approaches to non-technical audiences
  • Ability to author straight-forward, evidence-based technical writing
  • Familiarity with geostatistics and spatial machine learning
  • Familiarity with data architecture containerization concepts, e.g. Docker

Preferred Qualifications

  • Active TS/SCI with poly
  • Advanced degree in Geospatial Science, Computer Science, or related technical field of study
  • Applied experience with other software development languages, e.g., C++, Java, C#, JavaScript
  • Applied experience with spatiotemporal big data technologies, e.g., GeoMesa, GeoWave, GeoTrellis, Data Bricks, GeoSpark (Apache Sedona)
  • Applied experience with integrating geospatial workflows into cloud environments, e.g., AWS, Azure, GovCloud
  • Applied experience with imagery and LiDAR processing and analysis
  • Applied experience with emerging data formats, e.g., trajectories
  • Familiarity with web-mapping, e.g., OpenLayers, Leaflet, Keppler, MapBox, ArcGIS JS
  • Familiarity with dashboard development, e.g., Kibana, PowerBI, Tableau, ArcGIS Insights
  • Familiarity with graph database/analytics, e.g., Neo4j, Palantir
