Job Description

Our AI-enhanced Discovery and Decisions department has a need for an Artificial Intelligence and Decision Engineer with a passion for AI and expertise in applying AI to augment and improve human decision making. We are specifically looking for talent in machine learning (including deep learning), and one or more of the following technical areas: decision science, human machine teaming, large language models, cognitive science, AI testing and evaluation, multi-agent systems, knowledge-based reasoning, automated planning, semantics, and ontologies.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate closely with interdisciplinary teams to design and implement AI solutions that leverage semantics and ontologies to enhance human decision-making processes.
  • Develop and maintain semantic models and ontologies that capture domain-specific knowledge and context, enabling effective data analysis and interpretation.
  • Apply natural language processing techniques to extract and link semantic information from unstructured text data, facilitating improved decision support.
  • Integrate semantic reasoning and automated planning methodologies into decision support systems to enhance the generation of actionable insights.
  • Innovate and research new approaches to enhance decision support by effectively utilizing semantic information.
  • Collaborate on the design and implementation of AI-driven applications, such as large language models and cognitive systems, with a focus on semantics and ontologies.
  • Work closely with data scientists and engineers to ensure seamless integration of semantic technologies into data pipelines and decision workflows.
  • Participate in research publications, whitepapers, and technical presentations to contribute to the advancement of semantic AI.
  • Mentor and collaborate with team members, fostering a culture of innovation, knowledge sharing, and continuous learning. ​

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 5 years of related experience; or an advanced degree with relevant experience who can immediately contribute at this job step; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.
  • Expertise in semantic technologies, ontologies, knowledge representation, and linked data concepts.
  • Proficiency in designing and developing semantic models using languages like RDF and OWL.
  • Practical experience with applying semantic techniques to AI-driven decision support systems.
  • Strong understanding of natural language processing (NLP) techniques for extracting and connecting semantic information from textual data.
  • Familiarity with AI frameworks and tools, such as TensorFlow or PyTorch, is advantageous.
  • Proficient programming skills in languages like Python, Java, or similar.
  • Excellent communication skills for effective collaboration with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Hands-on experience with the development of AI-enhanced decision system prototypes.
  • Experience with testing and evaluation of AI systems, explainable AI, or AI fairness and bias assessment.
  • Published research papers or contributions to the AI and decision science communities would be a significant plus.
  • Experience with AI deployment and integration into real-world decision systems is desirable.
  • Active DoD Secret clearance.
