MITRE is seeking a Data Scientist/Machine Learning Engineer who is strongly motivated to contribute directly to solving real defense and intelligence challenges by providing game-changing operational solutions for our government sponsors. This individual will join a team with broad expertise in advanced machine learning working to advance the state-of-the-art in processing and exploitation of various data sources. This role focuses on developing, evaluating, and integrating technologies that process the vast amounts of “unstructured” language in all its forms. The breadth of MITRE’s sponsors and our corporate missions drive our work across the full range of Natural Language Processing (NLP), including speech processing and generation, information extraction, machine translation, summarization, multi-lingual information retrieval, identity technologies and more. In addition, the team authors algorithms, technologies, and workflows to advance the adoption of automation from a wide variety of Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) data sources. As part of the Advanced Processing & Exploitation Technologies team, you will work closely with domain experts and have access to cutting edge hardware to analyze large datasets, create new analytical tools, and address problems of critical national importance. Responsibilities include:

  • Engage with key decision-makers, government researchers, and mission-focused analysts
  • Advance analytic tradecraft that integrates and utilizes automated methods
  • Manage sponsor priorities, budgets, and deliverables
  • Run experiments comparing state-of-the-art methods with a strong focus on performance when these methods are applied to sponsor driven data and real-world conditions
  • Adapt research done in academia and industry to our sponsors’ uniquely challenging data sources and problems sets
  • Strategically shape our growing and multi-disciplinary team, driving innovation in all areas of human language technologies.
  • Analyze data, tools, and reports from cutting-edge sensor systems including video, infrared, hyperspectral, radar, and others
  • Brainstorm/problem solve with experienced technical staff to develop solutions for challenging problems and working with leading teams to implement those solutions

Basic Qualifications

  • Typically requires a minimum of 5 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 3 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with relevant experience who can immediately contribute at this job step; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.
  • Applicants selected for this position will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or applicants who are eligible for security clearances.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical, Computer or Systems Engineering, AI/ML, Data Science, or related field
  • 5+ years of relevant experience
  • Demonstrated technical depth in the fields of machine learning, data science, and natural language processing,
  • Must be a U.S. citizen with the ability to possess/maintain a DoD clearance
  • Proficiency in use of Microsoft Office including Outlook, Excel, and Word
  • Coding proficiency using Python, C/C++, Matlab, etc.
  • Must have demonstrated proficiency and strength in verbal, written, PC, presentation, and communications skills
  • Strong problem-solving skills and capable of working with scientists, analysts, and technical software developers
  • Possess demonstrated ability to provide deliverables to customer

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in technical field of study
  • Domain knowledge of remote sensing and ISR, particularly: Radar, SAR, MTI, GMTI, FMV, and WAMI
