JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Summary

The Director of Supply Chain Optimization & Data Science is a key role within Comcast’s Integrated Supply Chain Organization (ISCO). This role is critical in developing and executing on the supply chain strategy to build a supply engineering and data science discipline ultimately drive improvement throughout the supply chain network. This role will be instrumental in developing and driving Comcast’s Supply Chain Optimization and Data Science strategy and roadmap – collaborating with leadership, Comcast Divisions, and other stakeholders / business partners.

Job Description

Core Responsibilities

The Director of Supply Chain Optimization & Data Science is responsible for leading the overall design, development in implementation of various modeling and optimization techniques across the following areas:

Forecasting, Planning, and Inventory Optimization:

  • Evaluate and propose new inventory optimization and replenishment strategies.
  • Improve existing demand forecasting models by developing new methodologies (Machine learning, Markov chains, etc.).
  • Develop methods to systematically identify outliers to improve forecast accuracy.
  • Support decision making by providing requirements to develop analytic capabilities, platforms, pipelines, and metrics then using them to analyze trends and find root causes of forecast inaccuracy
  • Translate demand forecasting business questions and concerns into specific analytical questions that can be answered with available data using statistical and machine learning methods; working with engineers to produce the required data when it is not available
  • Formalize assumptions about how demand forecasts are expected to behave, create definitions of outliers, develop methods to systematically identify these outliers, and explain why they are reasonable or identifying fixes for them
  • Experience within supply chain planning system(s) (e.g., SAP Advanced Planner and Optimizer (APO), JDA/ Blue Yonder Luminate, Oracle Advance Supply Chain Planning (ASCP), etc.)

Network optimization/transportation:

  • Major participant in driving the supply chain transformation initiative at Comcast.
  • Develop network models to support various business models – factoring in fixed / variable facility, transportation, and inventory costs; various supply chain constraints (capacity, productivity, etc.); service level requirements; future long-term plans for growth/ shifts in business
  • Modeling in Llamasoft Supply Chain Guru X and other related tools.
  • Perform transportation routing and optimization studies (for parcel, LTL/ TL freight as well as dedicated fleet/ milk runs) to drive cost, transit time, carbon footprint improvements.

Leadership

  • Build a world-class team through attracting and retaining key talent.
  • Act as coach and mentor to support career development plans to help build a robust discipline in supply chain optimization, engineering as well as data science.
  • Partner / collaborate with other leaders across the supply chain and business to identify new opportunities to drive supply chain improvements.
  • Communicate verbally and in writing to leadership and stakeholders with various levels of technical knowledge, educating them about our systems, as well as sharing insights and recommendations.

General:

  • Build decision support models based on advanced analytics to drive visibility and continuous improvement.
    • Create models, tools and processes that will be used by analysts and operations.
    • Experience with preparing and presenting oral and written presentations to leadership and stakeholders across the business.
  • Identify fact-based solution strategies for key business issues raised by clients to ensure that all important issues are addressed in fully and appropriately.
  • Determine when and how to use quantitative research tools and models and assists in interpretation and development of implications to address client business problems.
  • Oversees development and usage of quantitative research tools and models to address client business problems and ensures that these tools are successfully deployed.
  • Develops and communicates goals, strategies, tactics, project plans, timelines and key performance metrics to reach goals.
  • Develops and manages budget to ensure required resources are available.
  • Defines the information, reporting and analytical needs of the company. Develops goals, strategies and plans needed to achieve the vision.
  • Serves as strategic leader of a functional area within the organization (e.g., marketing, operations, care etc.) that has rapport with senior leaders to achieve departmental objectives.
  • Ensures the effectiveness of projects, programs and teams.
  • Ensures the department implements and utilizes the industry best practices and technology required to provide insights, analysis and modelling for the company.
  • Consistent exercise of independent judgment and discretion in matters of significance.
  • Regular, consistent and punctual attendance. Must be able to work nights and weekends, variable schedule(s) and overtime as necessary.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
