As the manager of the Data Engineering team within MVPD&OS, you will be part of a team of problem solvers working closely with leaders across our group as well as the larger Technology, Product and Experience organization. In this role, you will work directly with product owners, data producers, enterprise data teams and internal customers to deliver data products in a collaborative and agile environment. This role is essential to continually improving our product portfolio and ultimately our collective customer success.

This role will help drive the technical roadmap, development, and support of our data platform. The manager is responsible for coordinating and directing the design, development, implementation, maintenance and support of data engineering solutions and applications, including a web portal for reporting and visualization while using cutting edge cloud technology. You will also (and most importantly) provide leadership to our engineering teams (including offshore) and focus on employee development and personal growth.

Core Responsibilities

  • Recruit, lead and mentor a team of hardworking data engineering professionals.
  • Lead and develop sustainable data driven solutions with new data technologies to meet the needs of our organization and customers.
  • Establish and promote standard methodologies, frameworks and processes across data engineering to positively impact customer experience.
  • Oversee technical strategy and architecture across data integration, data lake, data warehousing and data access layers.
  • Lead metadata management implementation efforts that enable how data will be used for business reporting and analytics.
  • Drive the implementation of data governance and data security related processes.
  • Develop strong relationships with Analytics and Operations leaders.
  • Drive technical innovation by exploring new platforms and technologies, uncovering new use cases with data and knowing the greatest and latest with the data landscape.
  • Lead and manage the engagement with technical partners including offshore, consulting and technology partners.
  • Plan, develop and implement data science, data engineering, or data analytics solutions and technologies and ensuring that sound methodologies are employed. Provides the Company with solid, effective and efficient systems that are supportable.
  • Understand the needs of non-technical internal application users and maintains strong support relationships with Managers, leads and end-user's community.
  • Measure effectiveness of improvements through deep analysis of data on performance metrics striving for cost-effective, high-quality improvements.
  • Consistent exercise of independent judgment and discretion in matters of significance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field.
  • Experience leading effective data engineering teams building scalable data platforms.
  • Generally require 5-7 years engineering experience.
  • Experience using a variety of AWS technologies (e.g., S3, QuickSight, Glue, EC2, Spark.)
  • Comfortable working over large distributed and unstructured data sets (500TB+)
  • Strong experience working with data integration platforms, modern data warehouses, data lakes and BI tools.
  • Experience with data governance, security, privacy and compliance.
  • Comfortable working in an agile environment with a cross functional and globally distributed team including offshore teams with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.
  • Expertise in SQL and at least one of the following languages: Java, Scala, Python.
  • Familiarity with data science and machine learning methodologies and use cases.
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Client facing experience and ability to explain complex technical components or solutions.
