MachineQ, a Comcast company, is scaling the platform and products that deliver advanced Internet of Things (IoT) services. We are looking for a results-driven, self-motivated engineer with a strong background in high volume, low latency request processing and experience with cloud solutions for application deployment and management. Reporting to the Director of Product Development Engineering, you will thrive in a fast-paced, agile environment and support an engineering culture where innovation is balanced with predictable delivery and operational excellence. As a Platform Engineer, you will bring your technical and engineering best practices to ensure the continued success of our SaaS IoT platform. In addition, serve in the role of guiding your fellow engineers through the design, development, and support of our platform. This role will partner closely with multiple product engineering groups within the organization and will communicate regularly with an incredible team of infrastructure, site reliability (SRE), and DevOps engineers.

Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Predictably deliver SaaS platform features.
  • Help set the technical direction for product features and anticipate scaling-related challenges via thoughtful planning, modeling, and load testing.
  • Assist in the design and implementation of long term strategic technical initiatives to meet business, product growth targets, and SLA targets.
  • Contribute to the architecture of MachineQ products by partnering with product teams to ensure the systems can meet security (DevSecOps), availability, and performance targets.
  • Assist with the development, monitoring, tracking, and analysis of application performance metrics.
  • Engagement in complex production issues to minimize impact to customers.
  • Distill business requirements into small technical requirements
  • Participate in rotating on-call production support.

Requirements

  • BS (or higher) in Computer Science or related technical field involving coding (e.g., physics or mathematics), or equivalent technical experience.
  • Experience with algorithms, data structures, complexity analysis and software design.
  • Demonstrated experience scaling customer facing applications.
  • Experience building and deploying distributed and robust cloud native (Azure, AWS, GCP) applications and infrastructure.
  • Experience with Go is highly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience with containerization and microservices solutions (e.g Kubernetes, Azure Kubernetes Service, Amazon EKS, Amazon Fargate).
  • Experience developing with and scaling event streaming platforms (e.g. Apache Kafka, Azure Event Hub, AWS Kinesis/SQS).
  • Experience developing with queueing infrastructure (e.g. RabbitMQ, Azure Service Bus, Amazon SQS).
