Job Description

We are the incubation arm of Walmart. Store no8 was formed in 2017 as part of Walmart’s larger innovation mission to shape the future of commerce. We pursue big ideas and take risks by stepping outside of Walmart’s core business to focus on leapfrog capabilities across conversational commerce, mixed reality, in-store digitization, and more. Our ultimate goal: fuel Walmart’s core business, create new operational efficiencies, and unlock amazing experiences for our customers in the long-term.

This team within Store Nº8 is working on healthcare innovations because Walmart’s promise is to help its customers save money and live better. This includes building products that enhance both their physical and emotional wellbeing.

About the Role

As a Senior Data Scientist for one of our Store Nº8’s portfolio companies, your focus will be finding trends in data sets and developing next-generation algorithms to make the data useful for projects within our incubator. Reporting directly to the Head of Health Data Science, you will partner with data engineering, product, Health & Wellness, store operations, and legal teams. • Lead discovery phases integrating with multiple internal systems and teams to ingest data and identify new ideas in the space.
  • Analyze complex data elements and develop data models that are easily digestible to help the team make best decisions based off the data.
  • Write code, create test cases, and proof of concepts. Translate business problems to data related mathematical solutions.

What You’ll Need

  • 6+ years experience in data science, machine learning or similar.
  • Significant programing experience (Python, Spark, Scala).
  • Experience with agile software development life cycles.
  • Extensive experience with machine learning tools (Scikit learn, Tensorflow, PyTorch).
  • Experience with SQL and NoSQL data structures.
  • Practical experience with cloud services (Google Cloud Platform, Microsoft Azure).
  • Experience building data products.
  • Thrives in fast-paced start-up environment, including balancing multiple projects and dealing with ambiguity.

  • Experience with health care data (claims, EMR) and its regulations.
  • Contribution to external open-source projects.
  • Agile experience with emphasis on rapid prototyping.
  • Understanding of container technologies like Kubernetes

Perks and Benefits

Beyond competitive pay, you can receive incentive awards for your performance. Other great perks include 401(k) match, stock purchase plan, paid maternity and parental leave, PTO, multiple health plans, and much more.
