About Emerging Tech Team

The Emerging Tech team is passionate about solving customer and associate problems with the newest technologies. The team is responsible for creating breakthrough capabilities, delivering frictionless experiences and making these technologies easily available to thousands of Walmart developers and 2.2 million associates. The applications and services built on these capabilities are used by hundreds of millions of customers daily.

Responsibilities:

  • Process large scale Walmart datasets using distributed cloud computing technologies to measure, understand, and bring insight to our merchandise data.
  • Build and maintain ML/DL model pipelines and services with focus on data analytics.
  • End to end ownership and collaboration with product, engineering, vendors, and annotation partners to drive production ML application integrations and maintenance.
  • Collaborate with other internal Walmart Data Science teams to enable high quality user experiences powered by AI/ML.
  • Support business objectives by collaborating with business partners to identify opportunities to improve our high-priority initiatives.
  • Collaborate with the Data Engineering team to gather the right information from our various sources.
  • Conduct exploratory analysis including hypothesis testing, statistical inference, and statistical analysis.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Computer Science and 4 years’ experience with specialization in data science or equivalent practical experience.
  • 3 years' experience with machine learning algorithms and tools and 1 year of experience in deep learning. Experience in Machine Learning models in products and building production pipelines/services.
  • Experience with Hadoop, Scala, Python, Spark, and BigQuery.
  • Expert in distributed computing dealing with large data volumes.

Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
  • 2 years of experience in a technical leadership role in medium to large scale complex cross-functional projects.
  • Experience in leading small groups of data scientist by providing directions and tasks.
  • Experience with deep learning in augmented reality and virtual reality.
  • Experience with GCP, advance modelling techniques and tools.
  • Experience in building standards across engineer teams.
  • Demonstrated knowledge with data modelling with data strategy for data pipelines and data products.
