Our Team:

We are Sam’s Supply Chain Tech team under art Global Tech. Our team works on some of the World’s most complex and challenging Supply Chain Problems. We are spread across multiple functional areas of Supply Chain including, but not limited to, Inventory, Transportation, Inbound Smoothing, Network and Flow Optimizations. We solve $80B Retail company’s Supply Chain Problems using cutting edge design techniques in AI&ML, Operation Research and Modern Full Stack Software Engineering.
 
Your Opportunity:

  • You will have the opportunity to work with a high calibre team from a variety of disciplines to build new software and radically change our business. Data Scientists in Sam’s Club work to develop and deploy advanced algorithms at scale.
  • You will support and enable the entire project lifecycle including problem discovery with business clients, algorithmic design, coding, validation, deployment, testing, and monitoring. 
  • Data Scientists adhere to agile software development standards through rapid prototyping, iterative development, and incremental deployment of capabilities.
  • Development is performed in Sprints and Data Scientists are held accountable to engineering excellence standards.

Your responsibilities

  • Play a key role in building data driven products to solve complex business problems across Supply Chain
  • Acquire a deep understanding of the business problems, define problem scope from business requests, and translate business requirements to analytical projects. Apply Design Thinking to the central question
  • Independently design and implement Data Science solutions using cutting edge Machine Learning, Deep Learning models & Optimization algorithms to suit art Scale.
  • Gathering of data, assess data validity and synthesize data into large analytics datasets to support project goals
  • Apply product mindset to build, scale and deploy holistic data science models end-to-end from scoping to development to scaling to deployment to monitoring
  • Applies best practice techniques for model testing and tuning to assess accuracy, fit, validity, and robustness for multi-stage models and model ensembles
  • Partner with senior team members to assess the business problem and formulate data science solutions
  • Demonstrate incremental solution approach with agile and flexible ability to overcome practical problem
  • Communicate recommendations to business partners and influence future plans based on insights
  • Mentor peers and analysts across the division in analytical best practices
  • Promote and support company policies, procedures, mission, values, and standards of ethics and integrity

 Your Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years of experience doing predictive modelling and machine learning in a production setting
  • Masters or PhD in a quantitative program such as Data Science, Operations Research, Applied Math, Computer Science, Engineering or related quantitative field
  • Strong understanding of probability and statistical models (generative and descriptive models)
  • Proven ability in solving Optimization problems using techniques like Mixed Integer Linear Programming (MILP) and libraries such as Gurobi, Ciplex, Pulp or other relevant libraries
  • Proficiency in machine learning algorithms such as decision trees, support vector machines, Gradient Boosting Machines (GBM), Random Forest, Regularized regression models, time series forecasting, anomaly detection etc.
  • Familiarity with Deep Learning and Neural Networks, such as detectors, classifiers, GANs, Reinforcement Learning, style transfer, and related learning algorithms or architectures is preferable
  • Experience in common development environments & tools (such as DataBricks, Google/Vertex AI, TensorFlow, MS Azure AI, Spark, Docker, Sagemaker, Jupiter Notebooks, etc.)
  • Experience in developing & deploying automated MLOps processes & pipelines in managed cloud environment such as Google Cloud Platform (GCP), & MS Azure etc. is preferable
  • Strong analytical abilities, ability to define relevant measurements / metrics for a given problem
  • Strong technical programming ability with an emphasis on Python
  • Intelligent but practical; you want to get things done and love simplicity
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Comfortable interacting with technical and non-technical audiences including business and tech leadership

Additional Preferred Qualifications:

  • Domain Knowledge of one or more divisions in Retail and Supply Chain
  • Published papers or given talks in leading academic and research journals
  • Published papers or given talks in Data Science Forums
  • Hold data science related patents

Minimum Qualifications...

Option 1- Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field and 3 years' experience in an analytics related field. Option 2- Master’s degree in Statistics, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field and 1 years' experience in an analytics related field. Option 3 - 5 years' experience in an analytics or related field.
