Job Description

Walmart is currently seeking a Principal Data Scientist to play a unique role supporting Walmart+.  The Principal Data Scientist role offers the opportunity to utilize your data science and analytics skills to help grow the Walmart+ business, a top company priority. This position will be responsible for spanning the gap between the business and technical teams across the W+ business.  The responsibilities will range FROM: Working with various data teams to ensure the accurate transition of critical business data (includes data quality strategy, defining new KPI’s/reports and developing business rules to ensure that data is fit for purpose for the W+ business) TO: Leveraging statistical methods and advanced modelling techniques (e.g., SVM, Random Forest, Bayesian inference, graph models, NLP, Computer Vision, neural networks, etc.) to unlock business opportunities.

• Great communicator – Is a pro at simplifying complex data to tell compelling stories. Can customize their communication style based on stakeholders. Can guide and coach junior associates on story narratives, structures, and techniques based on context.

• Business acumen – Able to anticipate the needs of business stakeholders by understanding the bigger business picture.

• Data Visualization – Skilled at converting complex data into compelling, easy to understand visuals.
• Story Telling - Able to translate insights into business relevant recommendations, and are able to share what matters, versus everything known, with ease.

We expect you know:

• SQL – Expert at writing complex SQL queries to surface insights from vast amounts of customer and transaction data
• R/Python – Expertise in at least 1 scripting language

Minimum Qualifications:

• Option 1: Bachelors degree in Statistics, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology or related field and 7 years' experience in an analytics related field.
• Option 2: Masters degree in Statistics, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology or related field and 5 years' experience in an analytics related field.
• Option 3: 10 years' experience in an analytics or related field

Option 3: 7 years' experience in an analytics or related field
