What you will do

Walmart Labs Omnichannel Pricing team is looking for a Senior data scientist to use Statistical and Machine Learning techniques to develop models and solutions that drive innovative pricing algorithms and help Marketplace sellers offer customers great prices. The senior data scientist will work closely with business, product and engineers to design and run experiments, research new algorithms, and implement solutions to produce optimal competitive prices for our customers. while scaling to hundreds of millions of products globally.

About the team

Our pricing team is a centralized data science and machine learning team that develops models, solutions, and platforms that drive pricing for products sold by Walmart worldwide, with focus on both competitiveness and long term financial optimality. Our work has been published in top tier conferences such as KDD and INFORMS.

Key responsibilities

  • Translating pricing business problems into specific quantitative approaches that can be solved with the vast amount of available data.
  • Build data pipelines from multiple sources and extract data insights with data exploration and visualization techniques.
  • Partner with business, product and engineers to break down complex pricing challenges, identify key requirements, research, design and build effective and innovative data science solutions, and successfully drive the creation of positive customer and business impact.
  • Evaluate the proposed solutions through benchmark tests and online AB tests in production.
  • Establish scalable, efficient, automated processes for large scale data analyses, model development, validation and implementation.

Our Ideal Candidate

  • Expertise in one or more areas among:– Classical Machine Learning / Deep Learning / Reinforcement Learning, Operations Research, Causal Inference and Statistics.
  • Experience with Demand Forecasting, Pricing and E-commerce Marketplaces.
  • Experience with leading data science projects from conception to production.
  • Experience of developing robust high-performance models with structured and unstructured data sets using advanced machine learning algorithms and optimization techniques.
  • Experience of building large-scale machine learning driven and optimization products.
  • Strong software development skills in languages such as Python, Scala or Java.
  • Ability to communicate your results from deeply technical to non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to influence and collaborate with cross functional leaders in Engineering, Product, Analytics, etc.

Nice to have but not required

  • Experience in retail organizations.
  • Published work in top tier journals and conferences (KDD, INFORMS, Neurips, ICML, WWW).
  • Experience with distributed systems and tools such Spark, Hadoop, etc.

Minimal Qualifications

  • Option 1- Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field and 3 years' experience in an analytics related field.
  • Option 2- Master’s degree in Statistics, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field and 1 years' experience in an analytics related field.
  • Option 3 - 5 years' experience in an analytics or related field.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Applied experience delivering to business customers using data science, machine learning, and optimization models.
  • Master’s degree in Machine Learning, Computer Science, Information Technology, Operations Research, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, or Econometrics.
  • Successful completion of one or more assessments in Python, Spark, Scala, or R, Using open source frameworks (for example, scikit learn, tensorflow, torch)
