Position Summary…

This position will support new program/product innovation, cross-functional strategic decision making, and provide methodology consultation and development at Sam’s Club.

What you will do…..

Technical Leadership: 70% individual projects and 30% on elevating the team productivity and state-of-art data science development. Lead portfolios of data science projects; serve as a subject matter expert on statistical analysis, causal and predicative modeling, and economics related topics; assess feasibility of applying scientific concepts to business problems; mentor junior data scientists and drive technical development and innovation.

Data Source identification: Define data requirements to solve business problems / develop data solution, across all different types of data that can address business, including but not limited to: business operation data, member profile, member / consumer behavior, member listening / feedback, 3rd party data, source from both brick-and-mortar and digital business / systems. Direct usage of appropriate internal and external data sources based on business and technical requirements. Define data quality guideline and align data governance.

Analytic solution / business insights development: Create, modify, adopt new or existing analytic solutions / insights to solve business problem / address business need. Assemble or influence required resources, whether they are within his/her control or in other teams, to develop analytic / data solutions and / or to analyze / manipulate data. Analytic solutions include but not limited to analytic modeling, analytic algorithm, data visualization, scorecard, dashboard, adhoc analysis.

Business Thought Partnership: provide thought leadership and counsel to stakeholders in exploring possible data solutions to address business questions and business needs. Define problem statement. Translate business requirements into data / analytic strategies, initiatives and projects, align them to business team’s strategy and objectives. Synthesize data from different sources, provide actionable business insights and / or analytic solution to stakeholders.

  • Business Acumen: Has strong business mindset, understand how business is operated, how business decision is made in the business area that this role supports. Think like a business owner running the business when deriving actionable insights / recommendation from analytic solutions / data.
  • Tech Skills: Expert knowledge on quantitative analysis; extensive experience with SQL and data manipulation/modeling in Python or R; deep understanding of probability, statistical analysis, and causal inference; production or non-production level experience on machine learning modeling.
  • Communication Skills: Ability to turn scientific insights into data storytelling to impact business partners decision making; effective communication when working with cross-functional teams.

Travel…

Travel could be required from time to time to support business activities

Minimum qualification….

  • PhD in statistics, economics, analytics, mathematics, quantitative marketing, or related field 
  • 5+ years’ experience in analytic modeling, with minimum 3 years in working with large data sets
  • Successful completion of assessments in Python/R

Preferred qualification….

  • Successful completion of assessments in SQL
  • Experience in field experiments, quasi-experiment analysis, causal inference, business and policy analysis;
  • Experience in modeling and solving ambiguous business problems under tight timelines;
  • Savvy to navigate through a large and complex corporate environment.
  • Having a growth mindset: “Stay hungry. Stay foolish. ”

Option 1: Bachelors degree in Statistics, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology or related field and 5 years' experience in an analytics related field. Option 2: Masters degree in Statistics, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology or related field and 3 years' experience in an analytics related field. Option 3: 7 years' experience in an analytics or related field
