Our Team (Advertising and Marketing Technology)

Our Advertising and Marketing Technology team is part of the New Business and Emerging Technology organization of Walmart Global Tech. We are a group of engineers and data scientists. Our vision is to be the leading advertising platform of omni-retail industry. We build technology to facilitate our users' shopping experience on our Site and Store by making meaningful connection between our Suppliers/Sellers and Shoppers. We use cutting-edge machine learning and optimization algorithms on billions of ad impressions and Walmart’s proprietary online and in-store data to facilitate customer’s shopping journey. We are building the next generation of omni-advertising platforms to deliver performance and value at scale.

What you will do:

As the Chief Scientist for Advertising, you will be part of the core senior technology leadership team for Advertising and Marketing group. The role will report to the Vice President of Advertising and Marketing Tech group. You will be focused on experimenting and applying computational advertising techniques to improve effectiveness and efficiency of Ads Marketplace. The successful candidate will be able influence algo development that will shape our next-gen advertising platforms.

Additionally,

  • the role will entail the following responsibilities:
  • Be the single point for evaluation of core algorithms used in our advertising and marketing tech teams.
  • Experiment needed ML techniques to identify inefficiencies and bottlenecks in our ads marketplace – be it bidding, auctioning, pricing, overall supply-demand dynamics impacting ads economy.
  • Influence the Data Scientists and Engineers in the teams to launch new algorithms to production.
  • Drive innovation by filing patents, speaking in conferences and meet-ups.
  • Mentor other Data Science talents in the team.
  • This leader will not have teams reporting to him directly. The success in this role will depend on influencing through thought-leadership as well as being known for expertise on computational advertising.

What you will bring:

  • Domain expertise in AdTech focused on Sponsored Search, Video and Display.
  • Deep expertise of ML/DL techniques, Computation Advertising, Auction dynamics, Ad economics, etc.
  • Working knowledge of Big Data technologies including ML libraries like TensorFlow/Keras, PyTorch, etc.
  • Excellent communication skills to communicate with technical and non-technical audiences.
  • BS or MS degree in Computer Science or a related technical field and 2+ years of industry experience.

Bonus if you bring:

  • Previous Start up experience.
  • Biased towards innovation.
  • Customer empathy.

Minimum Qualifications..

Option 1: Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology or related field and 8 years' experience in an analytics related field. Option 2: Master’s degree in Statistics, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology or related field and 6 years' experience in an analytics related field. Option 3: 10 years' experience in an analytics or related field.

4 years' supervisory experience.

As permitted by applicable law, provide evidence of full vaccination as defined by CDC guidelines OR secure approval of medical or religious accommodation for the vaccination mandate.
