What you’ll do…

The Walmart Omnichannel Pricing Data Science team is looking for versatile Senior Manager of Data Science to focus on building complex, cutting edge, and scalable algorithms and systems for our Clearance Algorithms team. We are shaping the future of retail by automating pricing decisions for the world’s number one retailer.

The Pricing Data Science team consists of Data Scientists, Machine Learning Engineers, Data Analysts and Engineers all working together to design, prototype and build technology-driven products and experiences that will change the future landscape of retail pricing. We are focused on building intelligent systems that will enable pricing decision automation so that we can effectively execute our pricing strategy in stores and online. We are building state-of-the-art predictive models to serve our customer needs by leveraging cutting edge machine learning, deep learning, reinforcement learning, and recommender systems. This will span many markets and business models; therefore, we are looking for scientists and engineers who will bring not only an abundance of experiences in technologies, but an abundant curiosity to innovate.

You’ll make an impact by:

  • Research and develop novel data-driven capabilities to power Clearance algorithms across all areas of the Walmart U.S. business. 
  • Work closely with business and product stakeholders to define strategy, vision, and roadmap for top initiatives in Clearance algorithms. 
  • Lead a team of talented Data Scientists, Machine Learning Engineers and Analysts to design, implement, test and launch omni-channel solutions.
  • Actively contribute to research community through participation at conferences, seminars, workshops, university relations. 
  • Lead and innovate in building state-of-the-art algorithms and Machine Learning systems to ingest, analyze and serve terabytes of customer data from various Walmart channels. 
  • Lead, mentor and grow team members while working in an agile environment. 
  • Actively propose, review and present technical solutions including architecture design, implementation details and customer and business impacting KPIs. 

You are well suited for this position if:

  • You’re experienced with traditional, as well as modern machine learning/statistical techniques, including Classification, Regression, Ensemble Methods, Deep Learning and Reinforcement Learning. 
  • You have 2+ years of experience managing junior Data Scientists or Machine Learning teams. 
  • Education: You have a Ph.D. with 3+ years of experience or a master’s degree with 5+ years of experience in a computational science, mathematics, or statistics discipline with an emphasis on Machine Learning or Data Mining.
  • You have strong development experience with at least one programming language (Python preferred).
  • You have strong hands-on skills in sourcing, cleaning, manipulating, and analyzing large volumes of data using distributed computing platform.
  • Knowledge of common machine learning frameworks such as scikit-learn, keras, pytorch as well as distributed data processing engines like spark.
  • You have strong written and oral communication skills. 
  • You’re experienced with end-to-end modeling projects emerging from research efforts. 
  • You have an excellent industrial or academic track record of proposing, conducting, and reporting results of original research, plus collaborative research with publications.

Option 1: Bachelors degree in Statistics, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology or related field and 5 years' experience in an analytics related field.

Option 2: Masters degree in Statistics, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology or related field and 3 years' experience in an analytics related field.

Option 3: 7 years' experience in an analytics or related field.
