Job Description

The Merchant Data Science team researches and develops algorithms that power our core areas like forecasting, pricing, assortment optimization, replenishment, store layout, etc. We work at enormous scale (millions of items x thousands of stores x dozens of variations) to deliver great products at great prices to our customers.

You will be working closely with other data scientists, machine learning engineers, operations research scientists, data engineers within the team as well collaborate with product managers, software engineers and analysts from partner teams to deliver data products that aim to simplify and streamline our store operations. We work with various techniques from machine learning (classical machine learning, deep learning, reinforcement learning), operations research, causal inference and statistics. Our work has been published in top tier conferences such as KDD and INFORMS.

What we are looking for

  • Ph.D./M.S. in a quantitative discipline (Computer Science, Statistics, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mathematics, etc.) with 3+ years of relevant work experience.
  • Expertise in one or more areas among: Machine Learning – Time-series models, Deep Learning / Reinforcement Learning, Causal Inference, Statistics.
  • Experience with leading data science projects from conception to production.
  • Strong software development skills in languages such as Python, PySpark, Scala.
  • Experience with distributed systems and tools such Spark, Hadoop, etc.
  • Ability to communicate your results from deeply technical to non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to influence and collaborate with cross functional leaders in Engineering, Product, Analytics, etc.
  • Nice to have but not required
  • Experience in retail organizations.
  • Published work in top tier journals and conferences (KDD, INFORMS, Neurips, ICML, WWW).
  • Experience with MLOps processes

Option 3: 6 years' experience in an analytics or related field
