The Senior Data Scientist will provide strategic and analytic support for the supply chain organization, as well as business partners in product management, operations and merchandising teams at Sam’s Club. Your goal is to use data and analyses to uncover problems and inform critical business decisions.

Challenges you’ll tackle …

  • You will use advanced analytics techniques to uncover valuable insights from data, managing projects from start to finish, including data gathering, modeling and communication of insights and recommendations
  • You’ll help identify opportunities and areas of improvement in supply chain (including logistics network, transportation, inventory optimization, etc.) utilizing methods such as statistical analysis, regression modeling and optimization
  • You’ll partner with Sam’s club product managers, technology teams, merchandising teams and business teams to influence business strategy and solve complex problems. 
  • Build scalable and complex supply chain models and processes to optimize supply chain strategies with goals to deliver excellent customer experience while balancing operating cost and asset efficiency

What you’ll do…

  • Create models to analyze the supply chain network need to support future sales growth with scenario modeling capabilities to understand the sensitivity to multiple variables; provide insight to Logistics executives on opening, closing, or repurposing DCs; analyze impact to multiple networks simultaneously; and create scenario analyses extending beyond the five-year modeling horizon
  • Build compelling presentations that synthesize findings, explain story behind the numbers, and communicate actionable recommendations
  • Develop optimization logic and tool to determine truckload lane strategy for outbound transportation balancing cost and SLA requirements
  • Develop logic and tool to determine optimal share of volume to process in various customer buying channels in the company balancing inventory availability, capacity, cost, and service level requirements
  • Build prototypes and simulations using Machine Learning, Statistical Modeling as a proof of concept

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Machine Learning, Computer Science, Information Technology, Operations Research, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Econometrics, or related field
  • 4+ years' experience in data science, machine learning, optimization models, or related field applied to supply chain problems
  • Extensive experience in one or more supply chain domains and related information systems – distribution/transportation, sourcing, planning, manufacturing and inventory management
  • Experience with large data set mining tools and open-source programming tools, (e.g., Python, R)
  • Hands on skills in data wrangling and visualization with tools such as SQL, Tableau, Power BI, ETL tools, Excel
  • Experience with network modeling tools and network optimization techniques - long range planning is a plus
  • Competent in PowerPoint and comfortable building presentation materials to tell a clear story
  • Ability to foster successful partnerships within cross-functional teams
  • Effective communication skills at multiple levels of the organization, including senior management - ability to communicate complex concepts in easy-to-understand terminology
  • Ability to champion ideas and influence the organization with fact-driven recommendations
  • Strong follow-through skills and acute attention to detail

Option 2- Master’s degree in Statistics, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field and 1 years' experience in an analytics related field. Option 3 - 5 years' experience in an analytics or related field.
