Job Description

Primary Responsibilities:

  • This individual will contribute their expertise in data architecture to a multi-functional team within a manufacturing environment, implementing Smart Factory initiatives at the Kansas City National Security Campus. The primary focus on this role will be to interface with IT and other partners to ensure data architecture is aligned with our big data platform.
  • Leads moderately complex projects that architects an efficient way to manage data across a diverse but unified data tier. Design, translate business requirements, develop, document, test, monitor, troubleshoot and administrate our data environment using our ETL, Data Virtualization, Business Intelligence Reporting, and Big Data tool sets.
  • Assist in the design, build, and manage data pipelines for data structures encompassing data transformation mapping, data flow diagrams, logical and physical data models, and metadata collection. The ability to work with both IT and business in developing, managing, and integrating business intelligence reporting, analytics, and data science output into business processes and workflows.
  • May assist in defining development guidelines and standards for data management on structured and unstructured data sets.
  • Utilize best practices for naming, governing, managing, modeling, cleansing, transforming, moving, storing, and searching all data. Ensure changes to the data environment are compliant to the architectural standards.
  • Participates in planning sessions with customers to improve business processes and prioritize investments in data and infrastructure.
  • Works closely with Technical Review Board and Enterprise Architects to assure all systems are in line with the long-term IT strategy.
  • Analyzes existing data structures and reporting to identify weaknesses and develop opportunities for improvements.
  • May participate on a team or lead the evaluation and selection process for new data application packages.

You Must Have:

  • BA/BS Degree in computer science, management information Systems, Engineering or a related field and two years of related experience or Certification and two years of related experience

We Value:

  • Minimum 2 years of experience working with large scale manufacturing operations. 
  • Detailed understanding Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software & Manufacturing Execution (MES) software including how these systems are used to drive production execution.
  • Experience integrating information from different manufacturing business systems to create actionable insights from source system data / databases.
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes especially with respect to prioritization and throughput analyses (i.e. bottleneck analysis, critical path analysis, etc.)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with Department of Energy (DOE) or military products and customers using the 6.x process or similar for product realization.
  • Understanding of how requirements are generated and verified in the context of Department of Energy and military applications. 
  • Understanding of the connections between database systems (i.e. MES, ERP), the manufacturing processes that use these systems, and related requirements for both the systems (software) and the manufactured products
  • Experience creating software tools using VBA, Python, SQL, Pyspark, Matlab, or R to process and analyze manufacturing data. 
  • General understanding of core database concepts and API integration
  • Ability to demonstrate high or broad level industry knowledge and skills in relational databases, data quality, data governance, data integration, business intelligence reporting, and data visualization.
  • Intermediate SQL knowledge.
  • Knowledge of at least one data modeling software tool such as Erwin.
  • Ability to work without supervision, given latitude for independent action, for decision making and for developing solutions.
  • Ability to read and comprehend technical documents, maintain accurate records, prioritize work, and analyze problems to develop innovative and effective solutions.
  • Demonstrated initiative to maintain technical currency through outside studies and training.
  • Ability to identify appropriate level of team interactions to resolve issues and lead effective collaboration and meetings.
