Join Honeywell as a Sr. Advanced R&D Engineer/Scientist who will direct computational modeling & simulation efforts necessary for development of novel sustainable materials and applications for Honeywell Advanced Materials Division. You will play a central role in the Advanced Materials Discovery team by employing state-of-the-art modeling & simulation tools to provide fundamental insights into material properties and their behavior in applications ranging from automotive and stationary refrigeration, data storage and communication, electronic materials, advanced energy storage, personal care, building and construction, pharmaceutical packaging.

Key Responsibilities

  • Understand scientific aspects important for different applications of HON products and identify and solve problems where fundamental insights from computational modeling & simulation can accelerate design and development of new materials
  • Act as first screen in design of new materials by rapidly down-selecting from a list of thousands or millions of candidate materials to identify few most promising ones
  • Develop, implement, and maintain efficient simulation methodologies required for design of new products/processes, validation of new applications, and plant/customer/regulatory support
  • Keep up to date with latest developments in modeling & simulation methodologies and implement most promising ones based on current needs
  • Work simultaneously on multiple projects across diverse areas while ensuring timely deliverables are met
  • Maintain software versions and licenses up-to-date and work closely with Honeywell HPC team to resolve problems encountered during installations and upgrade/refresh of HPC servers
  • Identify, coordinate, and work with external research, academic and new venture partners to prioritize and accelerate learning of application and material performance requirements
  • Translate voice of the customer and customer unmet needs to material performance requirements
  • Work with customers and Honeywell marketing to meet needs in a fast-paced environment
  • Follow all related safety and environmental rules and regulations

MUST HAVE

  • Advanced Degree in Chemical Engineering, Physical Chemistry, or Material Science
  • 3+ years of experience in advanced materials or specialty chemicals industrial research and/or new product development
  • Due to compliance with U.S. export control laws and regulations, candidate must be a U.S. Person, which is defined as, a U.S. citizen, a U.S. permanent resident, or have protected status in the U.S. under asylum or refugee status or have the ability to obtain an export authorization.

WE VALUE

  • PhD in Chemical Engineering/Chemistry/Material Science with emphasis on modeling & simulation applied to new material development
  • Strong fundamentals in one or more modeling & simulation technique – quantum mechanics, molecular mechanics, process modeling, CFD, FEA, AI/ML
  • Expertise in modeling wide variety of materials and processes
  • Proficient in at least one programming language – Python, R, MATLAB 
  • Experience with one or more simulation packages – Gaussian, DMOL3, CASTEP, VASP, QuantumESPRESSO, COSMOTherm, LAMMPS, GROMACS, Towhee/Cassandra, UniSim/Aspen, Ansys 
  • Experience in employing data science and AI/ML techniques for development of new materials
  • Familiarity with Integrated Computational Materials Engineering (ICME) principles
  • Experience in a fast-paced environment
  • Technical curiosity and passion for R&D
  • Desire and abilities to identify, develop, and improve new technical concepts and products
  • External orientation and desire to accurately understand technology trends, customer unmet needs, and working with external partners
  • Proficient in leading technical projects involving scientists, engineers, application development and marketing
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills - written and verbal
  • Reliable and trustworthy with the highest ethical standards and integrity
