A successful candidate will be an experienced and motivated Artificial Intelligence Assurance and Safety Technologist with verification & validation, safety analysis, programming experience, data understanding, and machine learning knowledge. They will research and develop (R&D) how verify and assure AI-enabled automated and autonomous aerospace systems. This will include the definition of metrics, development and evaluation of tools and methods to verify, validate, and assure these systems. They will collaborate with external organizations towards system certification. They will be comfortable in taking initiative, learning by experience, possess an interest in personal learning, seek feedback from others, and create innovative ideas. They will get great satisfaction in applying and engineering solutions that will work in the real world.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Performs research and develops advanced software and artificial intelligence models for aerospace products and services
  • Leverages knowledge of Artificial Intelligence approaches and techniques
  • Designs, applies, and creates new software, algorithms, methods, and tools addressing project requirements and needs
  • Evaluates performance of software, algorithms, models, or tools to meet application requirements
  • Perform system modeling and analysis, verification and validation, and safety analysis to assure safety and performance of software and services
  • Collects, organizes, synthesizes, and analyzes data; summarizes findings; develops conclusions and recommendations
  • Works under general supervision and is comfortable in taking initiative and learning by experience
  • Effectively communicates results to teammates and customers through written report and presentation
  • Collaborate with partners from government, academia and industry

This position is hybrid. This means that the selected candidate will be required to perform some work onsite at one of the listed location options. This is at the hiring team’s discretion and could potentially change in the future. Note-the candidate selected for this position can anticipate working 2-3 days onsite with remaining days as remote, on a weekly basis.

This position must meet export control compliance requirements. To meet export control compliance requirements, a “U.S. Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. §120.15 is required. “U.S. Person” includes U.S. Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee. 

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Experience in design, development, and deployment of AI & ML models
  • Experience in developing and deploying software programs
  • Experience in software verification & validation and safety analysis
  • Experience in preparing data to create and evaluate learned models
  • Experience in autonomous system modeling and analysis
  • Software programming skills and experience with programming languages such as R, Python, MATLAB, Java, C, or C++

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • 4 or more years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Graduate degree involving AI/ML research or application
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science or similar
  • Experience with software frameworks such as Robot Operating System (ROS) and Docker
  • Experience with Linux OS
  • Experience in quantitative or qualitative evaluation of safety and performance of autonomy and/or AI including safety-related standards, such as SAE ARP 4754, ARP 4761, DO-178, DO-254, ISO26262, ISO21448, and UL4600.
  • Experience in safety management systems, including verification and validation, formal methods, and safety analysis.
  • Experience with machine learning frameworks and libraries, such as SciKitLearn, TensorFlow, Keras, or PyTorch to build Neural Networks, Decision trees, Bayesian networks, and Support vector machines.
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of machine vision, computer graphics, AI/ML-based decision making, path planning and control.
  • Knowledge of data structures, numerical optimization and algorithm complexity
  • Experience with Agile methodology and version control system, such as JIRA and Git

Typical Education/Experience:

Senior (Level 4)

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+4 years' related work experience, Master+7 years' related work experience, 13 years’ related work experience, etc.)
