The Boeing Global Services (BGS) Data Sciences team is looking for a Senior Data Scientist with knowledge in fields such as machine learning techniques, advanced statistics, data engineering, and experienced with strategic portfolio development.

Join the Seattle based Boeing team as a Senior Data Scientist looking to revolutionize the delivery and assessment of Training Solutions in the aviation industry. Operators are put through rigorous and highly regulated training courses and Boeing is committed to its focus on safety, and is partnering with regulators and airlines in the industry to continuously improve on the training’s effectiveness. Boeing seeks to revolutionize this with a new offering of Management Solutions targeted at tracking, identifying, and improving new offerings utilizing Competency Base Training & Assessments (CBTA). At its core, the Performance & Training Advisor (PTA) is the analytics platform both collecting and generating data for this assessment.

Competency Based Training & Assessment provides a wealth of new data which will be leveraged to solve a wide range of problems in the domain. This team is responsible for development of the core software product, and are seeking a Senior Data Scientist to help shape the analytics strategy of the PTA product. This position will work closely with the Product Manager, Customer Airlines, and the Portfolio Management team to translate requirements from the training operations into workable user stories for the data analytics teams developing solutions to be deployed into PTA.

They will also be responsible for leading cross-functional teams to determine, define, and deploy data analytics to meet business objectives, investigate and apply best fit methods and algorithms, validate results, and perform necessary data preparation and enhancements to models. This position will be expected to lead larger project teams and mentor their early career peers. Additionally, they will develop, maintain, and coordinate with management the technical integration needs and strategy for the domain team.

This is a hybrid position that allows telecommuting. The selected candidate will be required to perform some work onsite at one of the listed location options.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate business analytics strategies and determine analysis goals given customer requirements near and long term. Determine technology and capability requirements for the domain to enable continuous support.
  • Modifies and analyzes complex data sets using analytics techniques such as machine learning, statistical analysis, mathematical optimization and simulation. Identifies modeling attributes and parameters. Applies algorithms to create descriptive, predictive or prescriptive models to achieve analysis and project deliverables.
  • Investigates data characteristics, complexity, quality, and meaning. Through visualizations and summarizations, defines performance, identifies trends, outliers, and drivers.
  • Prepares data for analysis, e.g. cleansing, conditioning, transforming, handling missing fields, identifying new feature variables and handling multi-variate data.
  • Leads teammates in determining best-fit data science methodology (statistics, machine learning, optimization, simulation) given the data and business applications.
  • Performs procedures in evaluation and validation of correctness of complex models and end-to-end deployment solutions. Leads evaluation and validation of team’s execution of models and analysis.
  • Develops analysis requirements given complex business objectives; determining decision support needs, data and performance requirements, and fit-for-purpose solutions.
  • Lead production and deployment of solutions with client teams. Determines decision support visualizations and reports, algorithms, models, dashboard, and tool documentation and training requirements.

This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required.

Basic Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of experience in SQL
  • 8+ years of experience in either R, Python, or other modern analytics software
  • 3+ years of experience working with stakeholders to develop technology strategies and roadmaps.
  • 3+ years of developing technology/analytics development plans for long term customer support.
  • 2+ years of experience working in an Agile (SAFe) environment.
  • 1+ years of experience in cloud technology (preferably Azure or GCP)

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Experience developing technology and customer oriented analytics portfolio of work
  • Experience working with engineering teams and data.
  • Experience in developing end-to-end analytics solutions.
  • Experience in aviation or airline operations industry or training.
