Job Description
Term: 1 year
Perform autonomous vehicle testing for safety (both on the road and the track), organizing and analyzing results from testing. Inspecting, identifying and annotating data and video files for team review. These tasks will be performed in Markham, Ontario working alongside one of our major industry research partners with occasional visits to University of Waterloo in Waterloo, Ontario.
This role is contingent on funding.
Responsibilities
Safety Driver (primary responsibility)
- Test driving an autonomous car along planned routes for sensor data collection
- Observing the actions of a self-driving car for potentially hazardous situations, and intervening to take control as a backup driver when necessary
- Keeping up to date with the rest of the team about the capabilities and limitations of the self-driving mode on the car, and identifying potential trends and faults while on test runs
- Collaborate with operations and engineers to follow collection/missions procedures
- Execute established procedures, processes, and checklists
- Provide reliable and honest feedback to operations and engineer teams on test processes and performance
- Assisting with the maintenance tasks on the cars
Data Annotation (secondary responsibility)
- Visual inspection of very large sets of sensor data (e.g. images and videos) to identify objects of interest
- Manual segmentation, grouping, tagging, labeling of visualized data using a software tool and mouse (with a high degree of accuracy)
- Following instructions to properly complete and store results from requested annotations

Qualifications
- Post-secondary degree (e.g., engineering) is an asset, but not required
- Valid G driver’s license with clean driving record (no more than 1 demerit point in the last 3 years)
- 3 of the past 5 years employed in a professional driving role
- Automotive maintenance
- Demonstrated ability to maintain strict confidentiality
- Proven aptitude for high degree of attention and focus over extended periods of time
- Excellent communication skills, oral and written in the English language
- Intermediate computer skills and knowledge of software applications used in an office/lab setting including (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and quick to learn
- Good, healthy eye vision
- Good observational and critical thinking skills
- Demonstrated decision-making, including the ability to ask probing questions
- Strong organization skills
- Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams
- Hours of work may vary daily depending on research needs
