Job Description

The gateway software engineering team at Huawei’s Vancouver Research Center is responsible for malware file classification research. Led by the top experts in this industry and mixed with new PhD grads and experienced veterans, the team will be expanding from 8 to 20 within 6 months. From a technical perspective, our malware file classification Team is involved in research and prototyping of novel solutions aimed at protecting our corporate customers from cyber-threats. We believe in the data-driven approach and machine learning and data science techniques as the foundation of our solutions. We design our systems from the ground up the way they should be and do not depend on legacy code. We embrace bleeding edge-technology if it improves our work or results. Our team is small and agile with academic and industrial experience in data mining, machine learning and operations. Needless to say, your work will have diversity in tasks.

Responsibilities:

The AI/DM researcher will work with the team to conduct applied research?on advanced state-of-the-art in applied machine learning and data mining, and collaboratively developing advanced products and services with other company?groups.

The work will mainly include:

• Conducting cutting edge research on applied machine learning and data mining
• Collaborating with product groups in the development of novel data mining and machine learning technologies
• Collaborating with external partners in the worldwide AI&DM research community, participating in academic activities.
• Publishing the research results to top Data Mining and/or AI conferences/journals
• Interfacing with other internal and external R&D teams to deliver research results to various products, and increasing?Huawei’s exposures to the global AI & Data Mining research community

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in computer science or related STEM fields
• Relevant papers in top conferences such as NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, RLDM, AAAI, ACL, EMNLP, NAACL, KDD, WSDM, etc.
• 3+ years of research experience in relevant fields, industrial experience in top research labs or large technology companies is a plus
• Experience in the knowledge graph, multi-media information retrieval, visualization, and Natural Language Processing (NLP) is a plus
• Experience building end-to-end machine learning system
• Extensive programming skills in Python and C++
• A track record of translating ideas into prototypes quickly
• In-depth understanding of Algorithms and Data structure
• Experience using ML frameworks such as TensorFlow and?PyTorch
• Experience using Big Data Frameworks such as Spark and Hadoop
• Databases experience in MongoDB and/or HDFS is a plus
• Knowledge in cybersecurity and applying?ML on cybersecurity problems
• Creative, collaborative, and innovation-focused
