What you need to know about the role:

PayPal’s Global Decision Strategy Team addresses financial loss by leveraging state-of-the-art technology to detect and mitigate fraud without impacting the customer experience. As a Senior Data Scientist, you will be leading this effort by building, developing, and implementing fraud strategies which drive impactful business results across the global organization.

Through close collaboration with business partners, scientists, and engineering teams, we translate insights into solutions that protect our customers, partners, and PayPal business around the globe.

Your way to impact:

PayPal’s Decision Scientists deeply understand our business objectives and the potential for financial impact through Fraud Risk Management. As a Senior Data Scientist, you will collaborate with a team that builds strategy for fraud prevention, partners to deliver solutions, and provides analytics and governance over financial and operational metrics. These solutions will adapt PayPal’s advanced proprietary fraud prevention and experience mechanisms in enabling growth.

Additional Job Description:

In your day-to-day role you will:

Design: Create solutions for sound decisions which balance risk, user experience and financial performance.

Planning: Develop anti-fraud policies, strategies, and experiences to support PayPal’s growth while maintaining consistency across financial and reputational risks.

Collaboration: Build collaborative partnerships between Data Science and the core teams and business partners to enable solution delivery and meet business objectives.

Governance: Decision making around business problems, critical design concepts, and end to end project management with KPIs and milestones cross functionally.

What do you need to bring:

Technical: SQL, Python, BigQuery R, Tableau and data visualization proficient with strong analytical and problem skills.

Culture: Communication, trust, and patience to build data-driven solutions addressing complex business problems across cross-functional teams.

Communication: Ability to translate data-driven insights into relevant stories and make decisions even if the data and solutions are ambiguous.

Strong business acumen: self-starter who thrives in a fast environment.

Education: BS/BA degree in Mathematics Statistics, Operations Research, Engineering, Economics or related quantitative discipline or equivalent with 5+ years’ experience.; Masters degree and 2+ years related professional work experience.

Industry experience in payments, e-commerce, or financial services is advantageous.
