We are looking for PhD student to join our Global Data Science team to do independent research and innovation in new content and technological domains, while supporting existing projects.
Meet our team
PayPal’s Global Data Science organization (GDS) is the largest hub of data scientists in PayPal and is in charge of building data science-based solutions for all aspects of PayPal’s business- fraud, marketing, credit, sales, etc.
As a data scientist in GDS you will work with a large group of other data scientists to build scalable and innovative data solutions for various domains, catering to business units
Our Data Insights Team is a horizontal team that builds data science solutions for various business domains, focusing on merchant-related solutions. We are working with external and internal data, structured and unstructured and building widely used data science solutions on top of them.

Your way to impact
As a data science intern in PayPal’s Global Data Science organization, you will have an impact on PayPal’s Merchant and Consumer products all around the world, developing Machine Learning solutions to solve sophisticated problems across the business.
Making use of PayPal’s endless amount of data, and combing external data as well, you will leverage your data and machine learning skills, for research and delivery of end-to-end Data Science solutions.
If you are a data enthusiast with sharp analytical skills and a passion for deriving new insights from unimaginable amounts of data, solving unique challenges, leveraging machine learning algorithms, and working in a highly collaborative, values-driven environment – then PayPal’s Global Data Sciences (GDS) is looking for you.
Your day to day
- Independent research and innovation in new content and technological domains, while supporting existing projects
- Data mining and extracting information in PayPal’s Big Data environment
- Build data science products based on various data sources which allow other data science teams to use this data for various business use cases
- Work independently and proficiently on multiple assignments simultaneously with speed and quality
- Cooperating with our talented development team in a high paced tech environment and maintaining a customer oriented approach
What do you need to bring-
- Education: student status required - PhD Student in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Statistics, Engineering or equivalent
- Availability for 50% position or more
- Deep knowledge in Machine-Learning methods and research – a must
- 1-2 years related work/academic experience – a must
- Code writing capability in any programming language (Python, R, Java, etc.)
- Strong analytical skills
- Experience in Big Data analysis – an advantage
- Quick-thinker, fast learner, wide general knowledge, problem solver
- Team worker, responsible, delivery-oriented
- Excellent spoken and written English
