Job Description
In this role, you’ll analyse complex customer journeys, identify opportunities and gaps in our help experiences, deploy rule-based solutions and create dashboards to monitor their performance. You’ll work closely with Machine Learning Scientists to define and deploy predictive models, Product Managers to enhance the help journey UX, and Customers Support Specialists to assess the financial/staffing impacts of your solutions.
As Decision Scientists - we focus on finding opportunities, defining, and using ML model. You’re unlikely to build a model yourself in this role.
Internship duration: 12- month, fulltime internship starting July 2023

The ‘Rule Based Solutions’ team, part of PayPal’s Global Customer Support org, is focused on eliminating friction customers face when they reach out for help. Our goal is to minimize the effort and ensure their issues are dealt with in a quick an effortless manner. We customize help experiences to ensure customers are offered options fit their needs and schedule. Our team creates rules-based solutions leveraging predictive modeling, customer behaviors and past preferences to customize the UX.
Job Description:
Your way to impact
- Produce accurate, automated solutions (rules, batches, process flows) and manual handling policies to target issues and/or business opportunities.
- Lead analytical projects, while setting goals, providing benefit estimations, defining workflows, and coordinating timelines in advance
Your day to day
- Provide insights into emerging issues, trends and portfolios - by analyzing various types of data, including review of relevant cases/samples, research of our customer service database and incorporation of feedback from teammates.
- Work closely with business partners and stakeholders to determine how to design analysis and measurement approaches that will significantly improve our ability to understand and address emerging business issues
- Develop dashboards to ensure performance against business KPIs, regulatory requirements and business priorities.
- Work closely with product teams on development of new capabilities to define requirements and priorities based on data analysis and business knowledge.
- Demonstrate flexibility that is needed to succeed within a matrix organization while being proactive and comfortable with working alongside stakeholders from different domains.
- Provide updates to leadership, peers and other stakeholders that will simplify and clarify complex concepts and the results of analyses effectively with emphasis on the actionable outcomes and impact to business.
What do you need to bring-
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in a quantitative field (such as Analytics, Statistics, Mathematics, Economics or Engineering) or equivalent field experience
- Proficiency with databases, spreadsheets, and statistical tools
- Proficient with Excel (Pivot Tables, Aggregative Function, Visualization)
- Basic SQL knowledge (our team uses Google Big Query)
- Basic knowledge of visualization tools (our team uses Tableau)
- Innovative & Curious - You have the desire and ability to connect and empathize with our customers
- You have an entrepreneurial spirit and get excited about creating new businesses and reinventing current ones
