What you need to know about the role:

Data Science helps to develop PayPal’s Risk strategy within the Identity Risk Lifecycle team. This team is responsible for understanding the people behind our accounts, connecting real world assets to these identities to develop trust and using both sets of data to limit fraud scalability and enable good payment volume.

Meet our team:

Data Scientists work closely with one another to align on fraud-prevention methodologies and tools, with Risk Operations, Data Science, InfoSec and with Customer Support, to keep learning about current fraud. They also partner closely with the Product teams to define features and integrate risk prevention tools to support business goals. Our team members are excited about solving analytical problems. Your way to impact:

You will manage a team of Data Scientists who are on the front line of identifying and targeting fraud to keep our millions of users secure and engaged. Risk Data Scientists apply their analytical and technical skills into researching data, monitoring, and creating logics that stop fraudulent activity on PayPal’s platform. They analyze existing loss trends and define logics, solutions and operational processes that prevent them - while delivering best-in-class customer experience for PayPal users.

In your day to day:

In your day to day you will:

• Lead, develop, and grow a high-performance Data Science team of talented and passionate professionals, who are results driven whilst demonstrating superior leadership in line with the PayPal values.
• Designs and develops programs methods, processes and systems
• Consolidate and analyze big data, creates and introduces new analytic tools, methods, processes, systems and capabilities to apply to broad practices
• Uses a wide range of previous experience, internal and external technologies, and advanced concepts to solve complex technical
• Builds models to test hypothesis, forecast/predict future events, isolate key business drivers and arrive at insights, interprets and communicates insights and findings from analysis, and partner with stakeholders to develop meaningful actions

What do you need to bring:

• BS/BA degree with 5+ years of experience or master’s degree with 3+ years of experience.
• Demonstrated experience managing a team of 3 or more highly talented individuals. 
• Experience with and proficiency in technical skills and programming language like java/C/C++; scripting language like Perl/Python; strong UNIX background; working knowledge of Hadoop, Map-Reduce, Hive, Pig, R, lunyter Notebooks; data warehouse skills
• Knowledge and experience in internal and external business processes and data, systems and flows, as well as analytic tools, processes, and methodologies, solutions to drive technological advancement in the area of responsibility.
• Strong ability in breaking down problems into their essential elements, carrying out a diagnosis and developing a solution 
• Demonstrates excellent verbal, written, and presentation communication skills with senior leaders of the organization, with an ability to collaborate and influence stakeholders at all levels in the organization
