Job Description

We look to employ folks with sharp analytical skills, a passion for deriving new insights from unimaginable amounts of data, solving unique challenges, and leveraging machine learning algorithms in a highly collaborative, values-driven environment. We are looking for a results-driven people manager with machine-learning experience and excellent analytical and intrerpersonal skils to lead a team in Global Data Sciences focused on building predictive models for merchant risk management. The team’s flagship solutions require innovative approaches to challenges that haven t yet been tackled with ML inside PayPal like global, NLP-driven merchant classification and leveraging new, external data sources for assessments of long-term merchant risk.
In your role as team manager, you will:
- Lead a team of highly skilled data scientists
- Craft a vision for the team and run the day-to-day execution of that plan
- Build long-term relationships with internal partners/customers
- Translate business problems into solveable data science challenges

- Team management experience

- Team player, responsible, delivery-oriented
- Minimum 4 years of relevant work experience
- Masters, PhD, or equivalent experience in a quantitative field (Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, etc.)
- Code writing capability in any programming language (preferably Python, R, Java, Scala, etc.) and familiarity with relevant ML packages
- Hadoop and big data experience an advantage
- Excellent spoken and written English
