Job Description

Working in the 1HC Business Group Process Development Team, as a Global Process Development Engineer for fabric cleaning liquids, is to provide Unilever with world class capability to develop manufacturing processes that allow the launch and manufacture of superior Home Care products at targeted cost, quality and efficiency. 

It requires the individual to develop a sound understanding of scale up principles, in-depth knowledge of manufacturing technology and material-process-product interactions.

This understanding needs then to be converted into decisions, actions and initiatives that support and deliver the Business Group strategy, targets, and plans.

Process Development Engineers are not just technology specialists, but also work as integrators to bring needs from different functions and locations together into one technical solution.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Work independently and lead a programme to:

  • Drive product superiority and savings through the delivery of technology insights and deep domain expertise.
  • Develop technology insights and deep domain expertise in key formats through creating and executing exploration trial programs based on Design of Experiment methodologies.
  • Create data and use digital models to demonstrate reliability of technology insights.
  • Identify, own and drive ideas for superior products and better ways to manufacture them.
  • Support innovation and renovation projects through delivery of Process Development workstream activities.
  • Work with international and interdisciplinary teams (R&D, Supply Chain, Procurement, etc.) to scale up and adapt bench-scale processes to pilot and manufacturing scale.
  • Develop process specifications, align with receiving teams and implement at manufacturing facilities.
  • Lead problem solving and troubleshooting activities in manufacturing around Quality, Cost and Efficiency.
  • Identify inefficiencies in working processes; develop and implement improvements.
  • Lead and/or support capability development workstreams around new technologies and/or new WoW, especially digital tools around data analytics and modelling.
  • Must have a “hands-on” approach to pilot plant and laboratory scale-up activities. Need to be able to work in a safe, disciplined manner.

ALL ABOUT YOU

  • MSc./MEng in Chemical or Process Engineering
  • Experience in data science and statistical modelling highly desirable
  • In depth knowledge of relevant processing equipment principles and practices
  • Computer literate and digital savvy
  • Data mining, capture and analytics for problem solving and modelling
  • Communication and presentation
  • Experience with laboratory analysis techniques advantageous
  • Process safety
