BUSINESS CONTEXT

For Unilever to remain competitive in the future, the business needs to continue its path to become data intelligent. The Data & Analytics team is responsible for building data, data science and analytics as a core capability to help the business become data intelligent and drive business and organization performance. The team will deliver advanced products at scale and work closely with the market teams to ensure that decisions in Unilever are augmented with insight & recommendations wherever possible.

There are five major themes to the Data & Analytics strategy:

  • Deliver Intelligent systems at scale. Powering Business (cross functional) and Customer Development area through data and analytics. Building out the right applications to enable business teams to move faster, with more accurate and future looking decisions leveraging Big Data & Data Science
  • Winning disproportionately in Markets. We believe that the best way to move the needle for Unilever in Analytics is to work with leading geographies to create analytics products that make a significant impact on our business
  • Drive Unilever to assisted and predictive decision-making. The future is about assisted decision-making with machines (AI/Cognitive Computing/Machine Learning) unlocking the insights from vast deluge of consumer, customer & internal data, and presenting this in a way that is simple for our teams
  • Make data a true asset. Better data and data science access for every part of Unilever, across the 3 data framework (Connectivity, Growth, Continuous Improvement) and leading through the Enterprise Data Executive
  • World-class Information: One Version of the Facts. Continued excellence in delivery of diagnostics and insights to focus attention when and where it matters with a focus on Big Bets, Strategic Initiatives and Leadership team reporting

This is an exciting new role in the Data Science and Analytics group in Data & Analytics, which is tasked to deliver maximum value from data to drive business and organization performance.

MAIN JOB PURPOSE

  • This role will report into the Data & Analytics Director of the Southeast Asia & Indonesia region. The role will be expected to lead the engagement delivery of SEA’s data foundations: Working with global teams on key enterprise datasets, driving onboarding of localised & strategic datasets and own the end-to-end joined-up data strategy support our business needs

To be successful, the candidate should thrive working with both technical teams and commercial business teams. Ensuring a healthy balance between global scale and local relevancy of the solutions is also the key expectation to this role.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage and coach local data engineers and support global data lake teams on designing, developing, and maintaining scalable and efficient data pipelines and systems
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to understand data requirements and translate them into technical specifications and solutions
  • Develop and maintain robust data infrastructure, including data lakes, data warehouses, ETL/ELT frameworks, and data modeling
  • Implement and enforce data governance practices, including data security, privacy, access controls, and compliance with global regulations
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including data scientists, and analysts, to support their data requirements and enable data-driven decision-making

The roles of duties are not exhaustive and may change according to business requirements.

KEY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related field
  • 8+ years of experience as a in relevant field. 3+ years of experience as a Data Engineer
  • Strong proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, or Scala, and experience with data manipulation frameworks (e.g., Apache Spark, Pandas)
  • Extensive experience with SQL
  • In-depth knowledge of data modeling, data warehousing concepts, and ETL/ELT frameworks
  • Proficiency in pipeline orchestration, and workflow management tools (e.g., Azure Data Factory, Apache Airflow)
  • Experience with cloud-based data technologies (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and related services (e.g., Azure Data Lake Storage, Databricks, S3, BigQuery)
  • Experience with DevOps practices, including CI/CD, infrastructure as code, and automation tools (e.g., Azure Pipelines, ARM, Terraform)
  • Strong understanding of networking concepts, cloud-based networking services, and security best practices
  • Strong understanding of data governance, data security, and privacy principles
  • Ability to optimize data processing and storage for performance and scalability
  • Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git) and collaborative development workflows
