Job Summary

Digital Selling and Digital Marketing are the key pillars for UFS, as UFS aims to reduce the cost of new customer acquisition and decrease churn whilst maximizing reach and product penetration opportunities, all aided through digital means. UniOps D&A supports this through delivering and maintaining a stable data environment, data insights and data science solutions. We aim to create a data-first mindset and drive data democratization. As a Data Engineer you are doing foundational work to ensure a trustworthy data environment and trustworthy data, being crucial in the unlock of value from the data.

Your key stakeholders include global sales and marketing, Unilever in Market teams, local data experts and local sales and marketing. We work as One Team with UFS digital selling, UFS marketing and UniOps CD-IT for UFS. 

Your work will be foundational to all data solutions. You will work in a team of Data Engineers and are part of a bigger team of Data Scientists and Data Reporting specialists to work on end-to-end solutions. With your Data Engineering team mates, you will be responsible to manage global and local environments providing both the Global data teams and the Local data teams with the data they need to build their insights. You have proven experience in data engineering, enjoy the challenge of optimization and big data, and you enjoy helping others work in a secure and functional data environment. You feel accountable for your projects and you see them through to ensure they impact the business. You keep your stakeholders and colleagues informed and use their input and support to strengthen your product and to capitalise on your efforts.

Key responsibilities

Key responsibilities of the Assistant Manager - Data Engineering are:

  • Work closely with Data Reporting Specialists and Data Scientists on end-to-end data solutions
  • Managing and maintaining environments in Microsoft Azure and Databricks
  • Building, optimizing and maintaining Big Data pipelines in Azure Data Factory
  • Managing security of data environments on a global level using Keyvaults, Unitiy catalogue or other Azure related functions
  • Working together with UDL/BDL and DAAP teams

All About You

You are true passionate data engineer who has experiences in maintaining environments and data pipelines. You can support your team members with your knowledge on cloud computing and collaborate with local data specialists to make data available and usable. In addition, you are a researcher who is able to uncover the underlying processes behind the users experience and has a constructive approach in their collaboration with their stakeholders.

We look for someone who is a self-starter, has never finished learning, displays a can-do attitude and a natural drive to deliver impact. You don’t mind working with strong deadlines, you use impact-based prioritization and display a certain level of candidness and critical thinking which you know how to use well and always in a respectful manner.

Since you’ll be supporting the UFS business, a love for food is always appreciated.

Relevant Experience:

  • 3+ years of experience in data engineering
  • BSc in Data Engineering or related field
  • Proven both tech and non-tech stakeholder management skills

Professional Skills

  • Highly skilled in Python, Pyspark and SQL
  • Experienced in the Azure cloud stack and Databricks
  • Experienced in CI/CD in Azure Dev Ops
  • Understanding the fundamentals of unit testing and pipeline monitoring
  • Understanding ETL/ELT
  • Understanding different data warehousing methodologies

General Skills

  • Strong intercultural communication skills
  • Known with Agile way of working
  • Fluent in English
