Job Description

As a Senior Data Scientist at one of the fastest growing management units within Unilever, you’ll be helping drive business by data mining, testing, analyzing, and transforming data into actionable insights. You'll own aspects of the data creation and management, data pre-processing, modeling, and inference considerations. You will also be involved in our efforts to develop and mature a scalable program to test customer experience, sales, and production efficiency. Your analyses and experiments will drive future direction of value proposition.

We are looking for causal inference and experimental design expert data scientists that love working with autonomy and ownership. We are interested in highly technical individuals with a solid statistical background, and experience with experimental design and/or causal inference techniques. You will be formulating and testing causal hypotheses using available data and defining the best course of action to empirically assess the success or failure of planned actions.

Bringing seniority to the team: This role will join the FSD leadership team and will act as the principal Data Scientist owning all aspect in this pillar. The leadership team consists of highly motivated, selected people who are each proven experts in their areas. We look for candidates with creativity, innovative problem-solving skills, passion and most importantly a growth mindset.

Key Responsibilities of the role:

  • Proactively structure and kickstart growth experiments,translate business questions into testable hypotheses, clear metrics, and predefined acceptance criteria. Ask the tough questions, identifying what is critical, and challenging assumptions.
  • Design, implement and validate experiments to assess the impact of product initiatives, pricing and UX changes.
  • Own data collection and perform ad-hoc analyses (cohorts, user surveys, etc.) to inform product roadmap, utilizing available BI tools/SQL, interpret the results and develop actionable steps based on the learning.
  • Work closely with the engineering team in the definition, implementation, evaluation and deployment of causal algorithms and experimental features of our platform.
  • Work closely with other data scientists and data engineers in using available data sets to verify causal hypotheses.
  • Work closely with our growth marketing team to design customer acquisition strategies, with our tech development manager to enhance the buying experience.
  • Identifying, developing and executing data analysis to uncover areas of business opportunity.

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

  • BSc/BEng or higher degree in mathematics, statistics, physics, computer science, machine learning or related fields; or equivalent technical proficiency / research experience.
  • Experience in experimental design and/or causal inference.
  • Knowledge of advanced statistical techniques for A/B testing, Bayesian experimental design, quasi-experiments, statistical matching techniques, observational causal inference and/or structural equation models.
  • You are metrics-driven, have a strong quantitative background, an experimenter's mindset, and broad technical skills.
  • Strong experience working with SQL, Redshift, DAX; and solid skills with analytics tools like PowerBI and Google Analytics.
  • Prior e-commerce related experience is strongly preferred
  • Coding skills in Python/R/JavaScript.
  • Experience with software development tools, source control, issue tracking, and continuous integration.
