Job Description

The Innovations and Research Engineer;

  • Aligns and carries out defined IT innovation projects.
  • Engages in world-wide collaboration with leading IT companies, startups and universities on emerging technologies.
  • Performs Innovation Scouting in the Americas region and delivers input for the Innovation Radar containing BMW relevant digital technologies and business innovation.
  • Oversees the collaboration with technology companies and startups.
  • Steers university, research and cooperate partnerships.
  • Manages selected and prioritized technology evaluations and IT Innovation projects as aligned with central innovation management and business partners.
  • Conducts research in the field of IT and business innovation.
  • Develops patents and creates intellectual property for the BMW Group.
  • Develops tools and methodologies for the adoption of innovation technologies.
  • Publishes research papers on results with the objective of establishing the BMW Group as a technology leader for digital innovation.
  • Provide support and training of BMW associates in innovation subjects.
  • Focuses on AI development and aspects of AI in machine learning and quantum computing.
  • Understands and models VPS (Value Added Production System) Principles and concepts of Standard Work and Problem Solving.
  • Adheres to 5S and Safety Standards and Principles.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by management.

Qualification:

  • MS Degree in Engineering, Science, Computer Science, IT or arelated field. PhD preferred.
  •  5+ years of demonstrated success in IT.
  • 2+ years of experience in a mid-level engineering role.
  • 2+ years of in-depth knowledge of specified discipline (e.g. Cloud, AI, Data Science, Quantum Computing, Machine Learning, Deep Learning).
  • 2+ years of knowledge of statistics, data analysis and forecasting.
  • 2+ years of strong analytical thinking skills.
  • 2+ years of knowledge of Cloud development, Industrie4.0 and integration to AI.
  • 2+ years of knowledge of simulations of complex manufacturing systems and business processes.
  • 2+ years of knowledge of the agile working model and methodologies.
  • 2+ years of strong communication skills with the ability to clearly communicate complex solutions to all levels of technical audience.
  • 2+ years of negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
  • 2+ years of knowledge of data engineering and tools for data management, cyber security and visualization
  • 2+ years of strong mathematical and statistical skills
