We, the BMW Group, offer you an exciting and varied doctoral thesis in the field of Causal Machine Learning (CausalML) on the subject of cross-process analysis of a near-series pilot production of battery cells using machine learning.

We are looking for highly motivated candidates who want to help us shape the battery cells of the future and thus implement emission-free and sustainable mobility.

The aim of the dissertation is to develop the potential of CausalML for process and product optimization in the newly established pilot line. In cooperation with a multidisciplinary team of engineers, quality experts and control technicians, all available data - from the raw material to the cyclization - is to be aggregated, processed and analyzed in order to gain new insights into cause-effect relationships.

• Application-oriented development of CausalML algorithms with the aim of improving the quality and efficiency of battery cell production.
• Transfer of the methods into a quality assurance concept in order to establish data-based decision-making as a central part of production.

what do you bring

• Master's degree in the field of data science, computer science, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, physics, process engineering, mechatronics, or similar.
• Sound knowledge of machine learning and IoT.
• Interest in innovative IT topics in the transition area between process engineering/mechanical engineering and cloud.
• Enjoy working independently.
• Analytical thinking skills and high problem-solving skills.
