We, the BMW Group, offer you an interesting and varied Ph.D. program in the area of Optimization of sales and supply chains in the Automotive industry using machine learning.

In the department for “Performance Management, Sales Steering & Transaction Pricing”, we are digitizing the entire BMW Group sales process together with the departments. In addition to dynamic transaction pricing, the optimization of vehicle volume allocation and inventory planning down to the sales regions play a role. With the help of data, sales processes are optimized and the customer experience is constantly improved. On the basis of our solutions, added value is generated sustainably.

What awaits you?

  • You will gain a deep understanding of the business processes in the sales of a premium automotive manufacturer.
  • You analyze current and historical data from the entire sales pipeline.
  • You create, parameterize and validate models for the sub-processes. These include agent-based models for understanding complex dynamics and ML models for predicting the development of key business figures.
  • You create, parameterize and validate an integrated optimization model in which the findings and partial models can be incorporated as building blocks.
  • Together with the team, you will show how your results and findings can be incorporated sustainably into the department's software products.

What should you bring along? 

  • University degree (Master) or comparable degree in computer science, physics, mathematics or similar subjects.
  • Excellent knowledge in the area of practical machine learning, statistical data analysis and modelling and simulation.
  • Knowledge in the area of classic software development (in particular Python), databases, and operating systems.
  • Sales/Sales/Supply Chain Management skills are an advantage.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Willingness to work in an interdisciplinary and intercultural team.
  • Excellent English language skills.
  • Enjoyment of working independently.
