We, the BMW Group, offer you an exciting and varied doctoral thesis in the field of corporate quality with a focus on machine learning.

Our department is the analytics hub in the quality management network. In close cooperation with the IT departments, we establish new, innovative and up-and-coming technologies.

What awaits you?

• As part of your doctorate, you will concentrate on the application-oriented further and new development of modern classification and clustering methods for machine-generated vehicle data in the area of quality management at the BMW Group.
• The aim is to advance the automation of computer-aided detection of error patterns. Among other things, it is important to scientifically evaluate the recognition quality of semi-supervised and unsupervised clustering approaches and to design and implement a framework that evaluates and optimizes the performance of different approaches for efficient classification and clustering of vehicle data.
• All in all, a method is to be developed that enables a reliable classification of previously unknown patterns and minimizes manual effort. In particular, the integration of ex-ante existing expert knowledge as well as the interaction and reinforcement possibilities between human and model are to be examined.
• You work in an interdisciplinary team in close cooperation with specialist departments, IT departments and university partners.

• Studies in computer science, mathematics, data science or a comparable course.
• Sound knowledge of the programming languages/libraries/frameworks Python, Pytorch and TensorFlow.
• Sound knowledge in the field of machine learning, deep learning in particular based on transformers.
