Job Description

Within the past decade in Bayer Crop Science, we experienced a rapid accumulation of phenotypic, environmental, and high resolution imagery data. In this role we are seeking an individual to lead the efforts to bring new breakthroughs in planting breeding by exploring and developing next-generation envirotyping models. Leveraging recent advancement in phenotyping, genotyping and envirotyping platforms, this individual will develop models to predict environmental and agronomic traits under various scenarios by fully utilizing high resolution, digitized spatiotemporal environmental and phenotypic data. 

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The primary responsibilities of this role are to:

  • Lead the efforts to create breakthroughs in precision plant breeding by exploring and developing the next generation of satellite enabled ML models.
  • Leverage recent advances in high resolution remote sensing and IoT sensors to develop models that characterize environments.
  • Provide technical contributions in a fast paced team environment to accelerate our efforts on building an analytics driven product pipeline.
  • Acquire, process, transform, and extract information from high resolution remote sensing imagery.
  • Create innovative insights from imagery and sensor data with a focus on large scale geo temporal analyses, computer vision and remote sensing, feature extraction from imagery and time series data, crafting complex model architectures using embeddings and ML/DL techniques.
  • Independently perform computer programming, predictive modeling, and statistical analysis using advanced mathematical models and machine learning algorithms to deliver insights, recommendations, and solutions.
  • Build cross functional relationships to partner with the business collaboratively and effectively network within the Data Science Community.
  • Present compelling, validated stories to drive both strategic and operational changes in business.

Required Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing a Ph.D. in a relevant field in Earth Sciences, Computer Vision, Computer Science, Deep Learning, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, and/or other related quantitative disciplines. 
  • Proficiency in Python/R coding, data wrangling, and a solid understanding of AI/ML model basics, implementation, and tunning. 
  • Experience with areas such as predictive models, developing, training, and evaluating deep learning and machine learning models (e.g., SVM, random forest, gradient boosting, CNN, FCN, ResNet, GAN, and RNN/LSTM) using PyTorch, TensorFlow, Keras and related public deep learning frameworks

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience implementing deep learning architectures for image classification, object detection and object segmentation, including YOLO, R-CNN, RetinaNet, FPN and U-Net; working with high dimensional data such as imagery, geospatial data, and geosphysical soil sensing is preferred
