Machine Learning Research Scientists and Engineers for Imaging (m/f/d) 

Meeting some of the most pressing healthcare and sustainability needs of our time, at Bayer we are leveraging the most advanced technologies to improve and save patient lives. The talented, young and international Machine Learning Research group in Berlin is seeking passionate research scientists and/or engineers (m/f/d) to join our team. Together we will develop innovative computer vision and multi-modal machine learning applications to support drug discovery and clinical decisions.

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Be an active member of a highly interdisciplinary and cross-organizational team
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of state-of-the-art machine learning tools for computer vision applications in drug discovery with focus on microscopy imaging
  • Stay current with the fast-paced innovation in machine learning, capturing the best advances in areas like self-supervised pretraining, vision transformers, data-efficient optimization or generative modelling
  • Deploy efficiently machine learning models to the cloud and the desktop and help productionizing the developed solutions into our discovery pipelines
  • Collaborate closely with data scientists, bioinformaticians, biologists, and chemists in order to choose the most appropriate solutions for each problem
  • Propose and develop new ideas, conceive and execute sound experiments, critically interpret the results, and effectively present them in various committees
  • Strengthen our external visibility and scientific excellence through publishing, open sourcing code, and engaging with the scientific community

WHO YOU ARE

  • PhD degree (or M.Sc with several years of working experience) in computer sciences, computational biology, bioinformatics, physics or related fields and sincere interest for life sciences
  • Experience in deep learning for computer vision applications. Knowledge in life sciences, microscopy, drug discovery or chemo informatics would be a plus
  • Profound expertise applying, dissecting and improving upon state-of-the-art machine learning methods
  • Excellent programming skills in Python are essential; experience using a Linux high performance computing environment and building efficient and reusable software
  • Publication record and/or contribution to software tools
  • Highly creative person with outstanding problem-solving ability and the willingness to undertake challenging analysis tasks
  • Strong interpersonal skills, excellent written and verbal communication, and the ability to work effectively both independently and in cross-functional teams
  • Fluency in English, written and spoken
